AND it was an EXCELLENT slap down of Edwards, saying, very subtly but clearly enough for anyone to get it..."Kerry only picked YOU to try to pick up some electoral votes in the south."

from latimes.com

For much of the evening Cheney watched Edwards with a look of predatory bemusement, reminiscent of a cat eyeing a canary. Edwards generally veiled his emotions more, though when Cheney said that Edwards was disparaging the sacrifice of Iraqi soldiers in the war there, the senator shot him a look that might have drawn the Secret Service onto the stage had it occurred in another context.

Cheney was relaxed, sedate, and serene. He struck me as a wise and wonderful man with all his priorities in the right place.

Ditto that!

I forgot to add this a minute ago. I said that he mad the comment as if there was no difference between us and them, and that has me thinking. Maybe sKerry doesn't see such a difference which is really frightening! It adds to Bush's comment abot pre 9/11 mentality. Kerry still thinks you can talk to these people. That's why he suggested the nuclear fuel for Iran, Unbelievable!

You know, Neville Chamberlain thought the same things about Hitler. He felt Hilter was an honest fellow, all that need be done was some gentleman like reasoning! Look where that line of thinking took Europe! I guess sKerry thinks thats okay!

Agree entirely. I find it laughable that even to this day, the Democrats want people to believe terrorism exists everywhere in the world except Iraq.

I think the GOP should run an ad that says A full time President, with a full time Vice President are running against two "Part time Senators", and show their attendance records.

You can bet that alot of what Cheney said at the debate is actually a projection of what the President says day in and day out, whether the President is at the Presidential debates, at the UN, in the Rose Garden or on the campaign trail.

I love Cheney! I can just see the look they are describing! It was great!

Finny, Cheney's a man who has been there and done that in life. He knows his mortality after his cardiac events. He's a wildly successful CEO who eats lawyers for breakfast. He knows OUR danger, and he knows the man he serves is outstanding. And he's serving America as a patriot, because after all he's accomplished, he could be spending a well deserved retirement as a rich man in his pretty SHAWEEEET Wyoming home.

That gives me comfort tonight. Guys like Cheney and Rummy don't need to prove nothin' to noone. But they serve this President, and our people, because they admire their boss and he has earned their loyalty and duty. That's the George W. Bush who warrants my admiration and support. He must be ONE HELLUVA "in the boardroom" leader and manager. His staff has had remarkably low turnover. And, perhaps most importantly, his relationship with Laura, his parents (former First Family) and daughters is 100% authentic and further comforting.

That's the stuff millions of threads by naysayers on FR could ever uncover or nullify IMO.

Cheney did better in the debate because he didn't have to be Presidential. He can be an attack dog, Bush can't. Bush is ultimately responsible for the decision to send the sons and daughters of Republicans AND Democrat Americans to their honorable sacrifice in Iraq, and he can't BE partisan as the CIC. Cheney is not the CIC.

I wish people would accept that. Nuthin' against you, because what you say is how it is spun. And you were making an accurate prediction. But we Freepers should be smarter than that, at least.

Worth repeating. Excellent observation. I thought Bush did great in the first debate -- he adroitly sidestepped all of the carefully-placed landmines and had Kerry looking like a the smart-ass guys we all know who are only ever Monday Morning Quarterbacks. And if there is one universal truth, it is: Nobody likes a smart-ass. (with respects to Hitchhiker's Guide)

Yep. I am a HUGH Cheney fan now. I saw some of his brilliance at the convention and just KNEW he'd spank that baby "senator" like a redheaded stepchild. At the RNC meeting we attended to watch the debate, one guy whispered to me, "Cheney's beating him like a rented mule." Pretty much summed it up for me.

I recommend against "fixing" any of these polls. After much DU activity, everyone in the country will know two things: 1. Cheney won the debate decisively in one of the biggest blowouts since Nixon vs. Kennedy.

2. Every single internet poll has 75-85% saying Edwards won.

A few more incidents like this, and internet polls will be considered less reliable than studying chicken entrails, and we'll never have to Freep another poll.

Thank you, but I neglected our Presiden't most important relationship ... that with Jesus (which he responsibly publicly labels as a more generic "God").

That's why his critics hate him in an animus unparalleled in my observation. That's why most of us trust him. It's his religiosity that has turned the International left into demented ghouls this past 4 years.

President Bush sleeps at night. It gives me shivers to think of the Night Stalker secularists like Gore trying to manage this ridiculously complex and lethal threat we face from a worldwide ambush enemy.

We're blessed by God as Americans to somehow find the right leaders at the right time throughout our history to preserve our lives and unique freedom. The Brits, Israelis and Aussies have that same providence it seems. But, today, we're senior partners in that endeavour. Everybody else in the "civilized" World just busts our collective junk and rides along as freeloaders. So be it, it's part of the obligation that goes with the blessing I guess.
