This would be Rex...he came with the house so can't attest to his lineage, but he's old and a real teddy bear but refuses to come into the house.

Rex has a conservative spirit, quite happy to provide for himself yet appreciative of the food that he gets, while Jake is more like a liberal, expecting a hand-out at every turn, willing to prostitute himself for a trinket.

Mornin' Glories!

I hope your weekend was just what you wanted it to be.

RE: My post #134 (yesterday) about HOLIDAY MESSAGES FOR OUR TROOPS

I was incorrect about our shipping deadline. Thank goodness! I don't have to mail my box as quickly as I previously thought. This means there is still plenty of time for anyone wishing to send a message of cheer and support for our troops to do so. Remember, it need not be fancy, just a few heartfelt words of encouragement and holiday wishes. I will print them out on festive paper and fru fru them up a bit for you. Please include at least your first names, city and state as signees. Just FReepmail your notes to me and I'll take it from there. If you know non-FReepers who would like to participate, I will happily include their messages also.

To all those who choose to participate, you're wonderful and we thank you so much. It is so important that we show our support for the troops, especially during the holidays when they are so far from their loved ones.

I personally thank y'all from the bottom of my heart!

The 4th QUARTER FREEPATHON is going great...25% of the goal was reached on the first day, and it's climbing rapidly. Jim has added new server after new server and we are quite the monster Mastiff on the net.

So here's to you, Mr. Robinson...Freepers love you more than we can say...Hey, Hey, Hey!

A fellow FReeper has requested prayers for the very sick mother of a friend.

LINK TO PRAYER REQUEST:

We've had some great new puppies pics posted, ranging from precious to pugnacious! Check 'em out.

As usual, sKerry and his demonRat sheeple are up to their typical dirty tricks and lying. Let's sick our Border Collie patrol on them, round them up and make sure they're penned in by election night!

Have you converted a liberal this week? Sic 'em!

I'm off to awaken my perfect little grandprincess #2. This will mean an end to the peaceful quietude of this beautiful morning on the lake. The water is shimmering with rays of sunrise, the pines are waving good morning to me, and all my babes are SNORING! Time to leave behind my reverie and Carpe Diem

Energetic Princess plus energetic pups = BEDLAM!

Rex is my brother-in-law's name. If only he was as beautiful and cuddly as your Rex! What a fantastic dog.
We welcome ol' Rex and you with a big pant and raised paw.

So you have triplets also? Don't you just love it. Three times the fun, love and licks! What beautiful babes they are. I'm going for number 4.

First question is, are they the same gender?

A male and female together usually get along. A pack can have both a male and female alpha . It gets a little sticky with 2 of the same sex. Wwith 2 of the same sex someone has to be the top dog and it isn't always the first dog.

Right now your older dog is having an adjustment problem because his routines have been disturbed. He used to be the center of your attention and now this little fur ball bundle of energy is getting much of it . He may not hate the new commer as much as he is annoyed with the dumbness and sheer energy of a pup.

Get a crate if you don't have one already and crate the new pup and spend some time with your older dog in sight of the puppy.

Then spend time with the pup wearing his fanny out. Teach him to play ball and make him/her run and spend some of that excess energy. Getting it on the end of a leash and walking till it's little legs are about to drop also helps. A tired puppy is a good puppy.

I made every mistake in the book , 2 puppies of the same gender together. Much of their time is spend in mock battles and once in a while it starts sounding and looking like the real thing. The down stay is the most important commandd in the book.

I strongly recommend obedience training even for a little dog. I had to do it because between the 2 of mine I have 125 lbs of dog.

Obedience training gives you a common language and it drumbs minding you into their little puppy brain. You will start out with a stay lasting 3 seconds and build your time up.

My Solitare will be a year old the end of this month and Jackie will reach a year in November. When they start getting too exuberant in the house I can put them on a down/stay for up to 90 minutes at a time.

Eventually you will be able to put the pup on a stay without it harrassing the senior dog.

Your pup Misty and your older Lambchop are both acting normally and can learn to get along but it takes patience.

All three are failed guide dogs we raised from puppyhood or, in Wish's case, was assigned to us. The deal with the guide dog organization was we had the option to keep them if they washed out, and we of course couldn't bear to part with any of them. There's a 7 year waiting list now for washouts at the guide dog organization with which we worked.

Ramona actually passed and was assigned to a blind person, but was retired after only a few months because of a health problem. Zoe failed because of a "bad attitude," and Wish because she was too sensitive. We didn't name Zoe or Wish. A major donor got to name Zoe, and Wish was named by her first family, who apparently weren't doing a very good job because she was yanked from there and assigned to us for remediation. Couldn't tell you why Wish was named that.

Neither Zoe nor Wish even made it through boot camp. Ramona, however, is a fully trained and qualified guide dog, including all of the advanced day-to-day living training they get. We fixed her medical condition, and she's had the life of Riley for 10 years. She just turned 12. Zoe just likes to have fun, guard the property line, and get into trouble. Wish is a "volunteer" therapy dog at our regional hospital.

In case you're wondering about our competence as guide dog puppy raisers, 90% of the dogs wash out, so our success rate was actually pretty good.

So Patriciaruth told me you dote on your bassetts. And I saw that you sleep with them, too. Thought you might enjoy ours:

Meet Gimli & Gloin. They like sharing my bed. Have to say, a 60# and 50# dog do not share a bed well.
