Mass. Parents Want Election Booths Removed From Schools

HUDSON, Mass. (AP) - Dozens of parents have signed a petition asking town officials to remove election booths from schools out of concern for terrorism. Sally Morgan cited the potential for terrorists to try to disrupt the Nov. 2 presidential election, as well as the school hostage crisis in Russia earlier this month in a petition sent to the town's Board of Selectmen.

The petition, signed by 125 parents, asks town officials to move polling places to more secure locations such as the town library, fire stations and churches.

Selectman Joseph J. Durant argued that pulling the election booths would rob students of an opportunity to see how democracy works. He also denied a threat to children exists.

"I think when fear and insecurity is introduced into Americans' everyday lives in something as simple and fundamental as this, it is a sad state of affairs," he said.

Morgan has also taken her concerns to the town's School

You'd think these Massachussetts citizens were living in a Sunni stronghold in a seedy Baghdad neighborhood.

Don't worry, Massachussetts citizens. Your junior senator says the threat of terrorism is overstated.

Actually--its not a bad point. when I vote at the local school there are never police around and a bunch of old ladies manning the election place. It is a target rich environment if you are an Islamofascist.

The voting should all be held in faculty lounges.

Well isn't this typical of Massholes. Give in to fear and remove vestiges of the democratic process from school while continuing to elect people like Kerry and Kennedy.

Oh, for goodness sake - GROW A BACKBONE! What's the matter, don't you trust your Senators to help keep you safe? If not, just crawl under your bed on election day -please!

They are afraid of terrorist attacks and want the voting done in churches. Why am I not surprised?

An obscure distant suburb of Boston is no doubt right in Osama's crosshairs.

What a pathetic bunch of morons.

Beautiful encapsulation of what it means to live in Massachusetts. You try to explain this to people in the outside world and they think you're pulling their leg.

It's not so much that. We know that MA is 70% Dim-o-rat. I wouldn't want all those perverts in my child's school either.

But... but... it's ILLEGAL to have a gun in a MA school, isn't it? So at least they'd be free of gun violence. </sarcasm>

.But the militant atheists are objecting to polling places in churches. Perhaps the election should just be canceled in Mass. and those electoral votes not counted. Then the socialists up there would feel safe and comfortable.

As a former Town Clerk who had the responsibility for locating and staffing polling sites, I can tell you that it is too late to move them.

The Counties have very early dates for changes and have to notify every person registered. Legally notices and locations have already been printed,if not mailed.

I can not imagine the problems that would end up in the courts if this move were made.

Portable trailers at the same location is the only option I can imagine and that idea does not seem to be a solution for safety.
