I'm sorry, those were the general's actual words. I posted the article and link above.

The media showing their non-bias again (/sarcasm). That "article" is so taken out of context you can read most anything into it.

Either that or the person that cut and pasted this for the TV station is incredibly lazy.

Correct,

One way or another, they'll be armed once they get to Iraq.

What remains to be seen is whether they get their CTA-50, weapons & equipment in CONUS or in KU.

"He will be coming home in another 5 months"

I imagine you are counting the days. Not only do we pray for the safe return of each and every servicemember, but also for the safety of the people who are trying to build a new society there. It seems the police, etc., are the main targets.

If Kerry would just STOP encouraging the terrorists by saying Iraq is a quagmire! Sheesh!

He will be issued a weapon in Iraq.

Not true dude, up armored Hummers do not leave country. Believe me!! Every unit here that get their sutff upamored leaves it. Standard policy.

Every unit tries to do this so they don'thave to deal with the BS of cleaning the crap before they head out and don't have to railhead the stuff either. Plus, if you leave your vehicles here you have better chances of getting new stuff when you get home.

Check your facts.

"Every unit here that get their sutff upamored leaves it. Standard policy. "

That makes sense. The reason I wondered is that my brother's unit has not been informed when/if they would get the up-armored vehicles. [They are undertaking a new mission, not replacing another unit in a hand-off -- maybe that is a reason there are still questions about it . . . ]

I read an article recently in Army magazine about Army civilians who were doing the work in theatre. It did not mention that the vehicles stayed.

Anyway, comparing notes on FR is one way to get the latest facts. ;)

I do know who they are, and I respect them entirely. My shot was against the French and not them. They would understand that, sorry you didn't...

Even though they aren't replacing a specific unit, they will still have access to their basic MTOE of equipment. They will not draw on it from the states, as most of the upamrmoreds have all ready been shipped over.

They will pick that stuff up from their FOB supply area while here.

DOD Civs are doing the work. They do a great job.
There is more to it, but that should satisfy your inquiry. And as far as weapons go, yeah, some NG and Res units that are cadre type, may not have weapons in their MTOE, but everyone swingin dude here has a pee-shooter. Don't worry about that.

98th is a non-combat unit

How is this news? A non-combat unit that doesn't have weapons? No kidding.
