'Knife or Life' for 2 in Iraq - Freed journo tells of sicko captors' games & torture
New York Daily News ^ | 9/25/04 | JOSE MARTINEZ

Posted on 09/25/2004 1:10:29 AM PDT by kattracks

Death was just a game for the kidnappers who held two journalists in Iraq for five days.

One of them, Canadian reporter Scott Taylor, who was freed last week, said yesterday he was manhandled, threatened with beheading and physically tortured - tied upside down and beaten on legs and feet with rods and a whip for nearly half an hour.

But the most frightening moment came near the end, when his captors subjected him to a twisted quiz in which the wrong answer meant death.

"They said we are going to play a game of 'Knife or Life,'" Taylor said in an interview with Fox News. "With each answer, I was to either live or die."

And the rules weren't fair. When they asked whether Taylor had ever visited Israel, saying no wasn't enough.

"The answer to that is 'No, I have never been to the occupied lands of Palestine,'" said Taylor. "They do not use the word Israel."

Taylor was grabbed in northern Iraq with a woman named Zeynep Tugrul, a Turkish journalist.

He said he doesn't know why they were spared, but suspects the men who took them found them by chance and were not interested in hostages.

That may have made their abduction even more chaotic. They were passed from group to group and Taylor said his captors displayed "almost a schizophrenic behavior," swinging from dishing out beatings to allowing the hostages to pick out their meals.

At times it was children or students who guarded Taylor and Tugrul, but the woman was not spared torture when hardened insurgents were in command.

Then, Taylor heard her screaming, and even his guards looked sickened. "The perpetrators were of a different breed," he said.

Taylor said he owes his life to Tugrul. "She saved my life a couple of times. She did suffer quite a bit herself."

Secure borders and ports, Register Muhammadans, Intern-Deport-Detain-Evaporate, Radiate the roaches in Tehran, Damascus and Ashpanistan border, Lather, Rinse, Repeat...

Cat Islam is a "moderate" who's 100% full of shi'ite! He funds Islamoterror, i.e., blowing up innocents as well as his Mein Koran verses to murder 'heretics' of Mooohammadanism like Rushdie.

There is no reason for Death Cult, Inc. (Muhammadanism) to outlive 2005

Although I am VERY thankful these people were freed, it is sickening to think of the torture that they had to endure. These terrorists need to be wiped out, once and for all.

Our expenditures toward our military, intelligence, and defense spending, this being the case, are way to low!

What is the SPECIFIC link for the poll you cite? I went to your link (above) and don't find any phone poll... either provide a specific link to the poll, or retract your statement.

Thank you.

As I stated on a previous thread- roast a pig, force feed it to them (run a tube down their throat and pour in the pork if you have to). Next, behead them, replacing it with a pig head then hang the bodies from the bridge in falujah (sp?).
The ratio is 5 to 1.. For every American they kill, 5 of them received this treatment.

These terrorist groups attract phsycopaths who use the muslim cause as an excuse to feed their sickness. Zarqawi is nothing more than Ted Bundy with an excuse. When all is said and done, they all deserve to die, psychopath or not.

"Then, Taylor heard her screaming, and even his guards looked sickened."

It must have been a result of that torture method when they placed underware over her head. Its the worst, ask Sen.Feinstein.

I saw this interview, and what is left out here which is interseting is Taylor has concluded that this 'game' was played after his captors had made the decision to release him.

So someone was 'just having fun'.

Oh, another thing, Taylor said his captors would bring "young Taliban" to watch the girl be tortured. He was not able to see the torture himself (there was some partition between them, but could see the spectators and hear the events. He said it was visibly obvious that those watching the toture were bothered by it.

This must be part of some effort to 'harden' then up.

I'm still trying to figure out why Taylor was released.

The captors were reported to be Ansar al-Islam, which is an Al-Qaeda affiliate.

I just find this whole thing odd.

Well, he had been passed between groups, most definitley bartered for, so maybe they thought killing him would have been a waste of their 'investment'.

Also, he was very experienced and well travelled in the area, obviously knew things like the "Occupied Lands" business (understood the culture well). He even made the comment that the place where he was captured needs o be discovered by National Geographic. i am sure he played a role in saving himself.

I would also suspect someone got something out of his release.

This occured in the North as well, so it probably was not AQ influenced as much.

I would also suspect someone got something out of his release.

But what?

He's not really editorially on our team as far as Iraq goes, which is a bonus if you're an insurgent, but he was part and parcel of the Slav propaganda machine during the Balkan wars - if the insurgents checked him out on the web as he says, that alone should have been enough to justify his execution in their eyes.

And again, his captors were supposed to be Ansar Al-Islam, which is a de facto Al Qaeda affiliate.

I think Al Sadr affiliated groups have released kidnapped journalists, and in Afghanistan another Canadian reporter was released back in December of 2001 by the Taleban, so I guess it's just the Ansar Al-Islam angle that's causing me cognitive dissonance.

What an apt comparison. I was living in Tallahassee when that sicko killed the sorority girls and tried to kidnap a little girl in Lake City. He was truly a psychopathic monster!

Yep, and one of the characteristics of a psychopath is the inability to feel any empathy with anyone. They can only view other people in terms of themselves. Any man who can repeatedly cut off the heads of other human beings is a psychopath. And just like Charles Manson he has found enough morally weak men to help him do it. A lot of these terrorists groups are like extreme cults.
