Flacks and politics an unholy alliance
Newsday ^ | September 23, 2004 | Jimmy Breslin

I am sitting in the aisle seat in the last row at New York University on Monday, and here are all these reporters typing away on their laptops, and I don't know how they can ever excite readers with this quick pecking on today's best technology, so wondrous and it breeds such lifelessness.

Suddenly standing alongside my seat was Mike McCurry, the press agent from the Clinton days who has been brought in by the Kerry campaign. McCurry has a stack of paper and folders and he is showing a document that he said proved that George Bush had 23 rationales for going to war in Iraq.[snip

[snip] The producer on the Rather show called Lockhart at the Kerry headquarters. She gave him the number of Bill Burkett, some shambles of a man who had given Rather the documents. Beautiful! What did she do that for? Lockhart then called. Absolutely marvelous! Lockhart now went on television. The greatest!

The story accomplished nothing except to clearly become the one most damaging mistake the American press ever has made. This was a lie that has caused the right wing paranoid bigoted Bible readers to see this as exactly what they have been saying: a left wing liberal media plot against the government.

Deny it if you can.

Dan Rather and his CBS news people, who can't sit still long enough to see that papers are fakes, have put their mistake into a presidential election, and that is some mistake. Historic.

Whoa! You almost need a spit shield installed on your computer! He's having a seizure over this.

Why do they have to say such nasty things about conservatives and conservative bloggers? The ones who exposed the memos as forgeries turned out to be correct.

I can just imagine Jimmy frothing at the mouth as he types away. His blood pressure clearly backing his life's blood up the IV line to his suspended fifth of scotch.

Jack.
