I can't see it. I don't think he wants to subject his family to the rage of the left.

Especially since there's virtually no chance of Cheney sticking around to succeed Bush, I think Gibson would be a great jump-start. With Condi Rice as VP, it would be a phenomenal ticket. But of course, the left would stir up as much vitriol against him as possible over "Passion" and his father's anti-semitism.

I was, incidentally, thinking in terms of the 2008 election, of course.
To: Hal1950
More likely this is a ploy by the democrats to siphon of votes for George W.

Down the line? It's possible. If he runs for Congress, and then for Senate, and can stand the scrutiny and invective, he would be an attractive candidate in, say, 2016 or 2020.
Before then? I say, forget it. I don't like this trend of getting celebrities to run for office before they make the transition to statesman/woman.

Well, he WAS BORN here so it is legal

More likely this is a ploy by the democrats to siphon of votes for George W. If that's the case, good luck--he can't get on the ballot with less than 2 months to go before election day.

Make him a governor first and see how he does. If he can follow the path that Dubya took, why not?

Mel has already fulfilled his destiny by bringing us "The Passion of the Christ." George Bush fulfilled his destiny in Nov 2000 and will continue by winning in November. Another has a destiny to fulfill for 2008. Time will tell who that person may be. Hmmmm. Although I'm being quite serious, this is beginning to sound like Star Wars. lol

I'm a big fan of Mel,but...Prez? Nah. It would corrupt him.
Besides, the LSM would hammer the poor man & his family to death. He strikes me as being a very private person.

I'm all for a political career for Gibson. He just needs to decide what state he wants to run in where he has a connection, and go for the governor's spot. This (or the Vice Presidency) is the only realistic path to the White House. And who says Gibson would need to be President to do some good? We need some vast improvement in Congress and the State Houses.
Maybe he could run in New York in the next governor's election.

If he were interested I would like to see him run in a Senate or Congressional race first. Make his bones so-to-speak, and then run after he's won a term or two.
Also, I know that he was born here, but didn't he give up his citizenship when he was a young man living in Australia?

Another has a destiny to fulfill for 2008.
