The moment the Police arrived (and it would be very fast) they would have to protect them from the mob. A mob would never get their hands on them. And we are not a land of mob rule.

Hello,
Another concern is the way the terrorists set up the school in Russia. I have read that the school was undergoing renovations over the summer, and the terrorists used that time to hide bombs and weapons in the school. Well, how many schools in the US were under construction / renovations this past summer? I know on one for sure: My son's elementary school.
Glad to be here, MOgirl

Too late if the school, or a bus full of kids is wired to blow. One move, and you get Russian redux.

Install bullet-proof doors it the school buses ! Okay. But, wouldn't this protect an Islamatic who has taken over the bus from snipers?

I think odds are that nothing will happen before the election. If Bush wins, all bets are off.

I used to live in the Selby-Dale 'hood of St. Paul, and after the third drive-by shooting that strafed the playground of my daughter's school, the principal held a huge PTO meeting to explain what the school was doing to deal with the problem.
It amounted to teaching the kids a "drive-by shooting" drill, in which the teacher blew a certain whistle and all the kids hit the dirt.
I suggested that it might be more effective to put up ladder stands at the corners of the playground and staff them with parent volunteers armed with high-powered deer rifles. They thought I was kidding and laughed a lot. I pulled my daughter out of that school and moved out of the city shortly after that.
Understand, the teachers and school administrators of today are vastly different from the teachers of the 1950's. More than half of them seem to think America is the problem.
I wouldn't count on them to do anything useful to protect American children.

Better to spill Islamic blood in the streets of Faluja, Najaf, Baghdad, or Chechnia than anywhere within the borders of the United States.

Ho, ho, ho...... giving guns to pacifists is a total waste of effort. They would surrender them in the first 5 seconds of an encounter in order to appease.

Now, what if some less suspicious "white-looking" Chechen, or female, or some local recruit(s) starts driving school bus and and shows for work up one day and rigs a bus full of kids with explosives?I believe Inspector Callahan knew how to handle a similar situation.

"Well, we had "DROP" under-the-desk drills in the 1950s and 1960s in the event of a nuclear explosion.
Did you actually experience such drills, personally? I went from first grade through high school during this period and never even heard of any drills remotely like that. I am not sure they were ever anything but an urban legend. If other FReepers actually participated in such drills, I would be interested to know.

Laura Ingraham..."We thought there was a line that would be drawn, and you wouldn't see children targeted."This "head in the sand" admission just keeps popping up in th media. At first, it made me angry. Then I started thinkng that only a few clueless liberals were the only ones who just weren't paying attention. Now I'm beginning to wonder... Do most people tune out the news about Arab terrorism in Israel? Do they just not think that there are lessons to be learned from the vehament Arab hatred for Israel?

"I Fear"
This is exactly what they want. They want everyone in the world to fear something like this happening to their children. Keep in mind that everyone will be on the lookout for such strange behaviors. I think I read somewhere that the terrorists had been smuggling ammo in for months. No one noticed. In America, we are now on alert for such activities. And if anyone sees something like this...I think you'll hear about it after the terrorists have been shot and killed.
