The Third Terrorist (OKC)
Front Page Magazine ^ | 9/2/2004 | Jayna Davis

Posted on 09/02/2004 6:48:59 AM PDT by 1066AD

FP: Jayna Davis, welcome to Frontpage Interview. It’s a pleasure to have you here.

Davis: I’m delighted that Frontpage considers my investigative work worthy of an interview. It’s a pleasure to join you in this discussion.

FP: First and foremost, what motivated you to write this book? How did you become interested in the topic?

Davis: My tumultuous journey began nine years ago amidst widespread death and destruction on a scale Americans had never before seen. As an investigative reporter for the NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City, KFOR-TV, I was among the first correspondents on the scene of the bombing of the Alfred. P. Murrah Building.

The concussive wave of fury had blown out windows in every office building and high-rise within my immediate range of sight and beyond. My eyes drank in the staggering devastation and the surreal panorama of human slaughter, but my mind could not comprehend the possibility of terrorism. Not in my hometown.

On April 20, 1995, my news director assigned me to cover the international manhunt for suspects. During the first forty-eight hours, all eyes were trained exclusively on the Middle East. Pundits and terrorism experts, including retired officials from the CIA and FBI, opined that the destruction to the federal complex shared striking parallels with the 1993 World Trade Center attack and the modus operandi of Middle Eastern truck bombings.

I don't get the diesel fuel item mentioned. I thought the bomb was mixed by some lake outside town. Other than that, who knows ?

Jayna and I have had many discussions. She has been indefatigable in the effort to solve this case. She will not waiver.

The striking parallel is that the 1993 wtc and okc were both racked by internal explosions

It's my understanding that diesel is the activator for fertilizer based explosives.

... but, I see what you mean. That move would have been awefully risky, especially for someone who was trying to remain anonymous. But, how else would it be done? It might have been 'crazy like a fox' to conceal their actions in the absurdity of open execution.

The most important book written in the last ten years. This is a MUST read for everyone.

I bought two copies and donated one to our local library. A LOT more people have read that book and my bet is that they now support the war in Iraq as a direct result.

Yes it is. I remember reading somewhere that they mixed it up at a lakeside park, maybe they wanted some extra, don't know.
I'm certainly not discounting her story, after all the first WTC bombing was passed off as a simple crime too.

I don't get the diesel fuel item mentioned. I thought the bomb was mixed by some lake outside town. Other than that, who knows ?

The alleged bulk explosive consituent of the truck bomb was "ANFO" -- Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer, mixed with ~7% Fuel Oil (diesel fuel). The fuel oil is added to the Ammonium Nitrate to prevent it from absorbing moisture, and thus becoming inert or ineffective as an explosive.

Immediately before the McVeigh trial, the FBI changed its story, and claimed that the mix also included 165 gallons of NitroMethane, the "hot fuel" used in top fuel dragsters, etc. Nitromethane is described as "the simplest nitro high explosive".

: Although the sketch of the contents of the interior of the truck (purportedly by Mcveigh) showed the three, distinctive, blue, (empty) 55-gallon steel VP Racing Fuels drums standing in the back of the truck, AFAIK, no trace of them was ever found.

That is particularly curious, because many fragments of the blue plastic barrels which ostensibly contained the ANFO/ANNM explosive charge were recovered as evidence.

There -- that's more than you asked -- and probably far more than you wanted to know... ;-}
