Kerry caught, in yet another lie, in his 1971 testimony!
JOHN KERRY TESTIMONY April 22, 1971 United States Senate ^ | 68-69TonkinGulfYachtClub

"...I can cite many, many instances, sir, as in combat when these men refused to fight with us,
when they shot with their guns over tin this area like this and their heads turned facing the other way.
When we were taken under fire we Americans, supposedly fighting with them, and pinned down in a ditch,

and I was in the Navy and this was pretty unconventional,
but when we were pinned down in a ditch recovering bodies or something

and they refused to come in and help us, point blank refused. I don't believe they want to fight, sir..."

"Although Kerry campaign officials insist that they have published
Kerry's full military records on their Web site
(with the exception of medical records shown briefly to reporters earlier this year),
they have not permitted independent access to his original Navy records.
A Freedom of Information Act request by The Post for Kerry's records produced six pages of information.
A spokesman for the Navy Personnel Command, Mike McClellan,
said he was not authorized to release the full file,
which consists of at least a hundred pages. "

"I spent more time on John Kerry's boat than any other crewmember.

John Kerry hasn't been honest - he has been deceitful.

John Kerry claims that he spent Christmas, in 1968, in Cambodia.

And that is catagorically a lie. Not in December. Not in January.

We were never in Cambodia on a secret mission. Ever."

It's in Douglas Brinkley's American History Magazine article, John Kerry's Final Mission in Vietnam:

As the two enlisted men bundled up Bac She De, Kerry wrote: "I looked at the small green sack that had been booby-trapped, and was awed by visions of the blast that must have ensued when it had been grabbed at. Half a hootch had been blown out by the concussion and there was a frightening hole in the ground." The situation was too dangerous for further on-site reflection, however, and the Navy men started back to their boats. "We had to extricate this body by carrying him in a poncho," Medeiros remembered. "I was carrying the front end, and somebody else was carrying the back. We had to go through a mangrove swamp, tramping through all this mud. I had a [grenade launcher] strung over my back, my radio was inoperable, and we had to deposit this poncho on the stern of the boat."

As the landing party turned back up the path, "light fire suddenly started to rake up from a field over the trees to the left," Kerry recorded. "Everyone dove instantly into the ditch by the side of our dike and I landed in water and mud up to my waist with the muzzle of my M-16 firmly planted in the crap. A whole line of mercenaries had already formed in the ditch, all shooting madly at what seemed like nothing. However, the whiz of the bullets over our heads that was visually nothing was clearly lethal." Kerry continued: "And Bac She De lay in front of us crumpled in the poncho while this holocaust went on. His feet were sticking out of one end, and I couldn't take my eyes off the boots -- one going one way and the other the opposite direction -- and the whole thing just silhouetted where he had been dropped suddenly when the shooting began. The alive shooting over the dead to remain alive.

"I was amazed at how detached I was from the whole scene," Kerry went on. "I just lay in the ditch, not firing because I wanted to save ammo and because I couldn't see what I was firing at, and I thought about what was happening in New York at that very moment, and if people really felt that I was doing something worthwhile while they went down to Schrafft's and had another ice cream sundae, or while some fat little old man who made another million in the past months off defense contracts was charging another $100 call girl to his expense account. And then, when the shooting stopped, I came back to where I was."

So is this BS in Tour of Duty

GRIDLEY Website page on John Kerry

http://home.nycap.rr.com/pwcarter/the%20kerry%20page.html

Other crew members speak about John Kerry

(Looks like Kerry's shipmates, who did serve with him,
say he lied and told whoopers about his time on the GRIDLEY.

Remember these are not Swift Boat Vets,

BUT Kerry's crewmates who served with him on the GRIDLEY)

Examples follow:

"As everyone must surely know by now, John F. Kerry came on board
GRIDLEY as a boot Ensign when we returned from our 1967 Westpac
Cruise. He remained on GRIDLEY through the 1968 cruise. Politics
aside, shipmates of the time who have read TOUR OF DUTY, the
authorized campaign biography, will have something to say about the
chapter on GRIDLEY. "

1. Kerry never talked about his time on GRIDLEY. He says on page
74 that it is because “nothing much of note” happened while
he was
onboard. He uses words like monotony and tedious, when, despite
being a boot ensign he was given every opportunity for responsibility
by Captain Slifer and Commander Kelly (XO). He came aboard
designated for Electrical Officer (80100), a grunt position in the
Engineering Department and spent four months in that position. He
was assigned duty as First Lieutenant, as Commander Kelly recalls,
because of his knowledge of seamanship and his experiences with small
boats and sailing. Besides being responsible for the decks of the
ship, the First Lieutenant is also responsible for the ship’s
small
boats. He also was assigned collateral duties as Public Affairs
Officer. Despite all the responsibilities he was given, he gives the
impression that serving on GRIDLEY was somehow beneath him. He
certainly had less of an opportunity to collect “gongs” there.

2. Page 78 – “motivate 400 swabbies” – The First
Lieutenant is
responsible only for the personnel of 1st Division, not the entire
crew. 1st Division had a roster of about 30 in 1968. To the extent
that other divisions had responsibility for deck space, their
officers would have been responsible for motivating them.

3. Page 87 has Kerry “shuttling sailors and provisions”
between
GRIDLEY and KITTY HAWK in a small motor whaleboat out in the Gulf of
Tonkin. The regular method of travel between the two ships was via
helo. That is how I went over to the KITTY HAWK. If such an event
did occur, it would have been unusual and hardly a shuttle.

4. Later on page 87 Kerry talks about Olongapo in the Philippines.
He talks about bloated corpses floating in the river and starving
women with babies dying of malnutrition. Now Olongapo was a wild and
wooly town that existed solely for the entertainment of the US Navy,
but in over three years of calling there, I never saw a single
instance of either thing happening. Kerry uncovered this in his
first visit. If this was from his letters home then he was certainly
writing for dramatic effect. Balderdash.

5. The trip to Danang – GRIDLEY went into Danang for briefings
before going to Northern SAR. This section is so full of hyperbole
that the urge to giggle is almost uncontrollable. “The panic and
pressure onboard GRIDLEY, strapping on a .45, wondering if I would
have to use it, B-52’s howling overhead”. A B-52 over Danang
would
have been so high that only contrails would have been visible, cloud
cover permitting. David Simons confirmed my recollection that during
our brief stay in Danang Harbor, the sky was overcast to the point of
being ominous.

More seriously, no one can remember John Kerry going ashore. I was
part of the shore party that went to Monkey Mountain. We were taken
in a screened in truck (to protect against grenades being tossed in)
and made to unload our .45’s. The driver said that he did not
want
us newbies to shoot anyone by accident.

Neither Commander Kelly nor LCDR Rueckert (Kerry’s immediate
boss)
can recall approving a trip ashore for Ensign Kerry. The author uses
remarks of David Simons IC2 as a lead in to the Danang section. I
spoke to David and he has no personal knowledge of Kerry going ashore
at all. He did talk to a researcher and made some generic remarks
about Danang but had never discussed Danang with Kerry. He recalls
arguing with the researcher because he tried to put the
words “cowboy” in his mouth, which ended up in the book.

There is no mystery about the “gruesome site of a pile of dead
VC.”
We saw no sign of anything like this. However, our escort to Monkey
Mountain did tell us how the VC bodies were stacked up on the
LZ’s
after the TET Offensive, which had been several months before.
Ensign Kerry would have been told this story by members of the shore
party.

If, indeed, he got to the pier, because he was in charge of the
motor whaleboat, it certainly would not have been within his purview
to wander Danang, eating dog meat and drinking beer in a bar (under
arms). It also seems amazing that he had all these observations on
Vietnam in such a brief visit.

6. In command – Again with the hyperbole. Kerry makes much
about
being “in charge” of the ship after the Captain and XO. The
OOD is
in charge of the operation of the ship during his four hour watch but
hardly in charge of the ship. Kerry qualified almost immediately as
OOD(P), in port OOD but that is a given. For much of his time
onboard he would have been Junior Officer of the Deck when underway.
Although his fitness report as of 22 March says "he is qualified as
OOD(I) now" (Independent steaming – with no ships or land
anywhere
near) , only OOD(P) is listed under duties. His Fitness Report from
July 1968 lists two months as OOD(I) which would mean he qualified
after leaving the war zone.

See post 17. John Kerry wasn't in a ditch when he recovered the Ruff Puff's body, but according to Brinkley, John Kerry recovered the Ruff Puff's body on March 13, 1969 before the Bronze Star action downriver. He was allegedly pinned down in a ditch on his way back to the boat on the recovery mission.

Maybe Al Hubbard will vouch for Kerry?

Head of Kerry's Vietnam Vets Against the War was Vietnam Vet phony

"Many of the stories were later shown to be fictional. Other so-called Vietnam veterans, such as the executive secretary of VVAW, Al Hubbard, a self-styled poet ("See what you've become, Amerika," ends one of his Vietnam odes), turned out to have no record of service in Vietnam."

By Kerry and the Media's own standards as applied to the SBVT, if these people Kerry is referring to were not in his boat, than he could not know what they were doing.

I find it hard to believe that with only 3 months in combat he saw so much...BS

Maybe he was in Cambodia?

"...For Kerry, his Yuletide mission was an epiphany: the moment when he realized his government was lying to the people about what was going on. This is the turning point, the moment that set the young Kerry on the path from brave young war volunteer to fierce anti-war activist.

And it turns out it's total bunk."

I think it's possible Kerry wasn't lying here.

So we have to cherry pick this liar's site for a particle or glimmer of the truth?

Just how damn sad is that? This freak wants to be your boss and you are giving him the benefit of a doubt that he might not be lying THIS TIME!!!!

Good God smell the frigging coffee.

The "we" included Medieros and Thurlow; there was only one body. More from Brinkley's article:

A few minutes after all the Nung were ashore, the Swift crews heard a loud but muffled explosion inland. A voice came over the radio: "Can you come back in here and pick up a body? I've got one of my boys killed by a booby trap."

Mike Medeiros jumped ashore to join PCF-53's Thurlow, taking a couple of U.S. military-issue ponchos to carry back the mercenary's remains. Kerry secured his boat and followed the others ashore. "The Nung seemed to be wandering around almost aimlessly, unaware that one of them had bought the ticket," Kerry wrote in his journal. Their leader came up to him and told him where the dead body was. "I remembered easily who he was," Kerry wrote, "the loud, boisterous, fat, impish man who was something of a ringleader among the Nung and who had endeared himself to everyone by his funny face." The Americans started down to where Bac She De, the Nung mercenary, had died. Moments earlier Kerry had asked, "Is it bad?" The Nung leader had replied "that you could put him in 'a bucket,'" Kerry wrote. "I walked more carefully, looking where each step went so that I wouldn't trigger another trap."

And if the point of the quote is that Kerry thought the South Vietnamese troops were wimps, from later in the article:

Mike Miggins, the U.S. Army adviser to the local ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam), told Kerry the problem was most likely that the Popular Forces didn't want to fight alongside the mercenaries. Then the Ruff-Puffs' leader got on the radio with the ARVN district chief and spent the next half-hour arguing in frenzied Vietnamese about something. An agitated Kerry and crew just stood by helplessly as the bureaucrats on hand engaged in a political debate over the present situation. Having had enough of this, the mercenaries' leader "called his perimeter men and told them to fake a firefight, hoping this might excite our Viet colleagues into battle," Kerry reported. "The next few minutes were filled with tremendous thunder, as though the whole war was being fought in front of them, but it was to no avail. Some of the South Vietnamese got up and looked around and some others cocked their single-fire rifles, but by and large they just milled around. Then they just walked back and got onto the boats and sat down."

While most of the "Cream Puffs" -- as Kerry liked to call the Popular Forces after that -- scampered back to the boats, a few of the bravest made little forays around the area in front of them, where they turned up a substantial cache of Chinese-made grenades, ammunition and one or two land mines. One group found some wire leading down into the water and pulled it up slowly and carefully. No mine was attached, but there was a string of batteries at the other end. "They were American-issue, and we realized that the VC had been planning a reception for us in this very spot should we have tried sometime in the future to make a landing," Kerry recorded. "I could just see us beaching and unloading troops into a volley of claymores and underwater mines."

Yes. I am giving Kerry the benefit of the doubt that he's not lying here. I'd rather stick with the things we know aren't true (like Christmas in Cambodia --- even Brinkley now says it's not true), than try to claim he's lying about something that turns out to be true, since it's plausible and consistent with what he has told Brinkley.

There's no question Kerry's a serial liar. But the way the RAT media works, we have to be pretty sure he's lying before leveling any charges, or they will use the one mistake to claim we have no credibility at all. That is what they have been trying to do.

Good work! I bet there is much more, in testimony over time and in newspaper articles and magazine interviews at that time. I was a proofreader for a small town newpaper at the time and I believe there were a number of newspaper stories off the UPI feed into the press office. I bet Time Magazine would have alot of this info in their archives.

For some reason, these Vietnam photos of Kerry remind me of that old home movie footage of Bigfoot.

From what I've read, the Ruff Puffs were the non-U.S. forces that were advised by the special forces. Whenever you see RF/PF in an after-action report, it's a reference to the Ruff Puffs. RF/PF was actually an acronym for something else that escapes me.

Kerry was transporting some Ruff Puffs on the morning of February 13, before the mine incident.

I don't know what gongs are.

He was mighty, might busy in the four months he was in Vietnam. One month of training, 2 swift boat units in 3 months, secret missions to Cambodia, 5 medals in the 3 months - wow! A regular superhero, bwahahahaha!
