Blame lawyers, Civil rights activists, special interest groups, senators in California, and Mr. Fox for this.

Yep, and the ultimate blam falls on the President for not having a spin and doing the right thing.

It's our fault that people are running across our borders illegally right?

Why yes it is.

Why aren't those, in the states that are currently most adversely impacted by illegal immigration, electing people to Congress who can make this a national priority?

We are trying; unfortunately, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party and the leftist media immediately label anyone that is against illegal immigration a racist and do everything in their power to keep them out of office.

Folks, this is how you snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Enough people could stay home on election day to make this election closer than it should be or lose it altogether. This is just insane!

Someone who tries to be an anti-immigration candidate faces an uphill struggle - no money and the media labels you a racist.

I ran for congress on a platform to stop illegal immigration. I did not run to stop all immigration.

The incumbent did not seek reelection.

If half the people posting their angry diatribes against illegal immigration on Free Republic would give money to candidates holding that position, those candidates might have a chance to win.

You have to get off your wallets, people. Large donors to both major parties have no incentive to stop illegal immigration. If it is to happen, it must be a grassroots uprising.

I can tell you I campaigned night and day for four months. I personally talked to more than 10,000 people. I personally distributed more than 50,000 pieces of literature. I drove 10,000 miles throughout my congressional district in my own vehicle. I gave passionate speeches for which I received considerable praise. In the end, I could not raise the money needed to buy the advertising I needed.

The candidate who won the primary was given a large amount of money for TV ads just before the election. It came from a conservative PAC in Washington DC.

Talk is cheap.

Winning elections takes money.... a hell of a lot of it.

I won't use big words this time. I don't want to live in a third world country. I don't want the way things are done in Monterrey or Guadalajara to be the way they are done in the US. The would be Mex-American political elite are going to use the NAACP playbook and make sure no real assimilation takes place for half or more of those who fill the barrios. We will not use aggressive assimilation tactics as were used a century ago (Only English spoken in elementary schools period for instance.) The phrase Mexico is where Mexicans are will mean just that for much of the urban Southwest. The local law enforcement and government will reflect this culture.

I live in Michigan where the problem is clearly not what it is for other states.

FYI, The Department of Homeland Security has arrested 1852 illegal aliens in Michigan this fiscal year.

That's right. I have no problems, nor do most people, with a multi-cultural society.

This is part of the big lie. We do not have a multi-cultural society. We have an American society that, up till now, has been an amalgam of cultures dominated by American ideals. Now, you and those of your ilk, are asking us to accept the supplanting of the American society with those brought by illegals, mainly hispanics. Why? Why should we?

That number doesn't surprise me. What I don't think we have here, yet, are the kind of institutional costs that other states suffer.

Robowombat, very good post. A lot of reading, but certainly worth it. Thank you.

The simple fact that he's transformed 2 countries into democracies doesn't phase you in the slightest does it.

NO. Because while he's busy saving the rest of the world our own country is going down the sewer. Putting our troops on our own border to protect us from terrorists and illegal felons would be a better plan, IMHO.

Please don't carry on the authors disrespect for our President. He was Mr. Bush BEFORE we elected him to the Office of President.

I think everyone on FR knows how strongly I disagree with almost everything the President has done regarding our open borders but it infuriates me to follow an intellectual debate were the President is referred to as Bush or Mr. Bush.

We were the ones who gave him the title of President, why don't I see more people on FR using it?

"What I suggest is that after Kerry's burial in November, we start an email, phone, and letter writing campaign to President Bush, and every single influencial person to express our displeasure and concerns. We should also pay close attention to who expects to be the GOP nominee for the run in 2008."

Not to be confrontational, because you and I are on the same side of this issue, but I don't believe GWB will listen to us at all if he's re-elected. After all, he won't be running for a third term, so he will do exactly what he wants his last term, and I'm afraid that includes opening the flood gates for the pseudo-slave labor his big contributors are pushing for.

Our only hope is to impress upon the House and Senate that we will go after any member tooth and nail who votes for ANY sort of "guest worker program" to get through Congress. Ditto the FTAA and other such damaging treaties.

>>We are trying; unfortunately, the Republican Party, the Democratic Party and the leftist media immediately label anyone that is against illegal immigration a racist and do everything in their power to keep them out of office.<<

If the harshest term a politician ever hears is "racist" then that person should consider a run for President.

I'm with you on this. While I can't / won't vote for John Kerry I also can no longer support Bush anymore since he no longer stands for the Rule-of-Law.

GOP to finesse immigration issue

The Republican Party's platform will oppose amnesty for illegal aliens, predicts Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, the platform committee chairman.

"I believe it likely there will be a strong statement against amnesty," the Tennessee Republican said in an interview with The Washington Times.
