I think he was on a mighty communist ideological 'trip' or 'mission' after his Yale 'experience', including Skull and Bones, and crafted his memories over a pipe or a joint, never thinking his gigolo ways would get him in a position to get to the top of the heap.

I wonder if he thought it would pan out really, and smoked himself into such a stupor that he 'seared, seared' many, many things into his now Swiss Cheese Power Tripping' brain.
