Claim removed from Kerry site
Charlotte Observer ^ | 8/19/04 | AP

WASHINGTON - In news releases and postings on John Kerry's campaign Web site as recently as last Friday, the Democratic presidential candidate is touted as the former vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

Kerry was not vice chairman and the claim has now been removed from Kerry's Web site.

According to the Senate Historical Office, Kerry never had the seniority to hold a leadership position on the committee -- though he was a member from 1993 until 2001.

The Kerry campaign says the claim was an error, but did not explain who made the error or how it went undetected. Bob Kerrey -- a former Democratic senator from Nebraska -- did serve as the Senate Intelligence Committee's vice chairman.

"John Kerry, Bob Kerrey -- similar names," said Kerry campaign spokesman Michael Meehan.

Republicans were less willing to see the misstatement as an innocent mistake.

"It's difficult to take John Kerry's claims about his intelligence experience seriously when one of his credentials is completely made up," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson. "If he had shown up for Intelligence Committee hearings he would notice he wasn't vice chairman."

Kerry is one major error.

Hell, this guy makes George McGovern and Al Gore look like real people.

That's a good point. I'll never forget Madeline Notbright and Clinton talking about "when we aren't a super power anymore". It's almost as though they are doing everything they can to make sure that day happens and soon.

The unravelling is beginning. The Bush-hating party thought they could nominate anybody and get away with it. They were wrong. They've got a far left loser at the top of their ticket and the whole country is watching.

It might not be a landslide, but I think it's going to be a safe 52-48 Bush win.

Thje error is easy enough to explain - but this is the kind of bind you get into when you are doing "resume enhancement". Kerrey was with the Navy in Viet Nam, Kerry was with the Navy in Viet Nam, "John" and "Bob" are fairly common first names. (Wasn't there a "John" and "Bobby" Kennedy a few years back?)

%%%%%%

That is laughing out loud funny!!!! Kerry is a laughing stock!

If he does not even have a clear grasp on his own work history, how can anyone expect him to "run" the Executive Branch of the US Government.

France, Germany, Russia, China, and the Middle East seemed to have been banking on it as well. Gives a big clue as to what path the algore administration would be on, had they stolen the election of 2000.

"Then, please point them out. I've yet to see any ..."

Seems awfully cloudy from where you are. The Rove cloud of darkness may surprise you in a few weeks.

Perhaps you will tune in to the debates and the storm will pass.

I know, I know ... I'm an optimist. ;)

"In 1974, John Kerry claimed that he remembered flying around under his own power using tiny little wings attached to his back, collecting teeth in the dead of night. He once remarked that it was a memory that was seared... SEARED.. into his mind." said the reporter.

"John Kerry, Tooth Fairy, similar names" replied Meehan.

From the John Kerry for President site we learn this: (John Kerry's Time on the Senate Intelligence Committee

Kerry is an Experienced Leader in the Intelligence Field – John Kerry served on the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence is the former Vice Chairman of the Committee. Kerry joined the Committee in early 1995 and served until early 2001. Among the areas closely investigated by John Kerry and the Intelligence Committee include global terrorism, world wide threats to U.S. national security, international espionage, weapons of mass destruction, drug trafficking, arms trafficking and nuclear security. John Kerry is also the former Chairman of the Subcommittee on Terrorism, Narcotics and International Operations and conducted several high profile Intelligence and International Security investigations. Additionally, Kerry is the author of the 1997 book ‘The New War’ which addressed the challenges of global terrorism and has served on the Foreign Relations Committee for more than eighteen years. ......... “As chairman and then ranking Democrat on the Senate subcommittee on terrorism, narcotics, and international operations, John Kerry has been out front in pushing three presidential administrations to take seriously what is going on in the international underworld.” [Cleveland Plain Dealer, 11/6/96, 7/20/97; Boston Globe 6/28/97; The Guardian, 6/19/96]

Kerry's website would make The Great Houdini jealous.
It gives a whole new meaning to "Now you see it - Now you don't". With a wave of his wand - he makes people'places and things disappear.

I wish Meehan WOULD explain that statement. What, he doesn't actually know Lyin' John and can't ask him directly about his record? Perhaps Lyin' John is the one who was confused about the committee in the first place...

Or why the Kerry campaign's web site would be touting Bob Kerrey?

Gotta love the AP. They're very good at not asking questions they don't want answers to.

"John Kerry, Bob Kerrey -- similar names," said Kerry campaign spokesman Michael Meehan.

I suppose it was just another case of mistaken "similar names" yesterday when 3 (those were only the ones I heard so could have been more), THREE, different people on FNC called him John KENNEDY?!?

but Bob KerrEy was the one who cast the deciding vote.

I hadn't heard that one. The man and/or his RAT staff can't go one day without lying. Heaven help us if he does become POTUS.
