"They know that they've lost. September 13th is far too close for any legislation to pass the Senate, House, and a committee to rectify the differences in a bill even if *everybody* wanted this ban renewed...which we clearly do not want."

Hold off on the celebration. If congress collectively concludes that it must pass anything prior expiration date what keeps a moron [or group of morons] like Lautenberg, Schumer, Clinton, Boxer, Murray, Cantwell and whole herd of their ilk or worse in the house from insisting on attaching an amendment to an otherwise acceptable bill?

Also an expiration of this "ban" might keep the aforementioned morons from pushing through a real ban? Would Bush do anything but sign it?

As I've explained to my father earlier this week, There is no way in h*** that this will be signed before the bill sunsets.

The bill sunsets, and the President keeps a campaign promise. Convienant.

If it weren't so deadly, it would almost be humorous.

Registration is the death warrant of the left,
and they can't wait to sign it!

our nation will face a new era of criminal and terrorist attacks with assault weapons ...

If this fails to happen, will Dennis A. Henigan apologize and resign? Odds, anyone?

I thought "psychosis" meant detachment from reality. Since the 2nd Amendment is reality, can we say that she, in fact, is the "extreme psychotic"?

Amendments slow bills down. There simply isn't enough time left for the Senate to debate and pass an extension, then for the house to debate and pass an extension, then for the conference committee to rectify the differences in the bills, then for the House and Senate to make their final votes.

So the AWB is dead.

President Bush said two things about the AWB: that he'd sign an extension and that he'd veto any *new* gun control.

He said nothing about renewing an expired AWB.

So to be 100% certain to get past a Presidential veto, an AWB extension would have to have no new gun controls in it *and* would have to be passed prior to the September 13th expiration.

Add new gun controls to it and it gets vetoed. Let the existing ban expire and you enter a gray area at most.

Now, tell me again how the anti-gunners are going to get past DeLay in the House?!

5 Legislative Days Left Until The AWB Expires

It's always a great relief when our 'leaders' go on 'vacation'....they do more for freedom and Americans by not working than any other govt. employee

imo

I believe when they get back from their 'summer vacations' they will only have @ 9 days
of hysterical rhetoric and lies to get this to Pres Bush's desk....

If by some devilish manipulation of relality it gets to the Prez's desk...I sure hope that one promise he does reneg on...is signing that damnable "Anti 2nd Ammendment" AW Ban Bill......

imo

Just checked Bushmaster and did not see anything similar. I sent their customer service a note and a link to Armalite.
I want my pre-ban components and I want them NOW!

As you know, the federal Assault Weapons Act makes it unlawful "to manufacture, transfer or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon." 18 U.S.C. section 921(v)(1).
ATF has interpreted this provision to prohibit the manufacture of complete assault weapons or the grouping of assault weapon parts together for later assembly of a banned weapon. ATF policy states:
Semiautomatic assault weapons in knockdown (disassembled) condition consisting of a receiver and all parts needed to assemble a complete semiautomatic assault weapon are subject to regulation if the parts are segregated or packaged together and held by a person as the parts for the assembly of a particular firearm.

BATFE "policy" is not the law. The law says "manufacture, transfer or possess a semiautomatic assault weapon", not stock parts. Besides, they already have the parts, they still make fully automatic versions (and semi's too) for police and military customers which are full featured (That is, have folding stocks, bayonet lugs and flash hiders)

Just more desparate posturing by the Brady Bunch.

"Thanks Anne, and thank you too, Sarah, for letting me know about this wonderful opportunity to expand my firearms collection!"

I'm going to Armalite's homepage just as soon as I hit "Post" here!

Sorry, Mr. Hennigan, but you've got your people confused: that "drooler" you're thinking of is James Brady...

Let's see...according to the anti-gun statist massholes, anyone who wants to (or, presumably, actually does) own a firearm defines as an "assault weapon" under the AWB is an "extreme psychotic."

There are literally MILLIONS of such weapons already in public hands (they are known as pre-bans), owned by millions of people. Are they ALL "extreme psychotics?"

Are ANY Democrats owners of these firearms and, if so, are THEY "extreme psychotics? Ditto for government officials. Ditto for police officers.

Are all of the millions of additional people who own functionally identical firearms that were manufactered or imported in the last 10 also "extreme psychotics?"

I think that it would be an extremely effective tool to use against the renewal/reauthorization/expansion effort, to say nothing of anti-gun candidates, to throw these outrageous words back in their face.

I'll say it now, as I have before and will continue to: Eff them all!!!
