About a certain 'entire public' (Leftist Bigot Alert!)
Jerusalem Post ^ | Aug. 11, 2004 | Larry Derfner

Posted on 08/12/2004 12:00:02 AM PDT by Alouette

When the Shin Bet director and the minister of domestic security warn about a crowd of settlers and fellow travelers who want Sharon dead and who want to blow up the Temple Mount, I for one take this as cause for alarm.

After all, are Avi Dichter and Tzahi Hanegbi lying? Are they looking for headlines? Bigger budgets for their departments?

It might be reasonable to suspect their motives only if a Jewish extremist hadn't already killed a prime minister, and a gang of settlers hadn't already been caught preparing to blow up the mosques on the Temple Mount.

But after Rabin's assassination and the Jewish terror underground of the early Eighties and the disengagement plan now posing a mortal threat to the settler movement, everyone knows there's a whole passel of Jewish fanatics out there ready and willing to do very literally anything to block Sharon's will.

Some people don't want to admit they know this because, understandably, they don't want to think seriously about what would happen if Sharon were assassinated or the Temple Mount mosques destroyed.

Meanwhile settler activists, such as the Yesha Council leaders, try to discredit these warnings by pretending outrage over the "delegitimization of an entire public," paying lip service to non-violence, and challenging the Shin Bet and police to produce solid evidence against specific individuals or shut up.

Well, you can believe the Shin Bet and the Israel Police, or you can believe the Yesha Council. What these settler leaders are up to is making sure nobody puts them on the defensive, nobody blunts their momentum, and nothing forces their focus inward on themselves instead of outward on the enemy.

We've been through this whole thing before, in the run-up to the Rabin assassination and the post-mortem, and the settler movement hasn't changed one iota; and, unfortunately, the rest of Israeli society hasn't, either.

Once again they're a menace, and once again we're afraid of them.

The only thing different is that the Shin Bet and the police are protecting the prime minister much better than before, and they're taking threats to the Temple Mount much more seriously.

Thank God. Does anybody want to speculate whether Sharon would still be alive if he were being protected today like Rabin was, or rather wasn't? You see so many of these framed, altered photos of the Temple Mount with the rebuilt Temple standing in place of the mosques; would the mosques still be there if the security services protected the Temple Mount like they did 20 years ago?

THIS IS what allays the Israeli public's fears – their self-delusion that the Shin Bet and the police and all those other intelligence people are infallible, that no assassins or bombers can possibly get past them. Everything's under control, you can all go back to sleep.

But obviously no security force is infallible. An Israeli cabinet minister, Rehavam Ze'evi, was under Shin Bet protection when Palestinian gunmen killed him less than three years ago. And after America's trauma with the assassinations of the Kennedys and Martin Luther King, and the near-attempt on president Ford's life, how did a guy get by the Secret Service and shoot Ronald Reagan?

Yeah, I'm spreading fear, I'm inciting against the settlers, I'm besmirching an entire public. Let me tell you about that entire public – not the suburbanite "quality of life" settlers but the tens of thousands of mobilized settlers and their hundreds of thousands of soulmates in Jerusalem and elsewhere: They are the sea in which Jewish terrorists swim.

Yehuda Etzion, the convicted ringleader in the plot to blow up the Temple Mount, can go to any anti-disengagement gathering he chooses and be received as an elder of the tribe. Itamar Ben-Gvir, Noam Federman, and the rest of their brotherhood are stars of the right-wing "street," and those who disapprove of them don't dare stand in their way.

As for the mainstream settler leadership, they've got a "good cop, bad cop" thing going with these scum. In Tuesday'sYediot Aharonot story about tactical training camps for settler youth being run by Ben-Gvir's Netzach Yehuda group, an unnamed Gush Katif activist said this has nothing to do with the Gaza settlers' "democratic struggle."

But the Gush Katif source also said if Sharon "continues his destructive tyranny and flouting the law and will of the residents, it is clear the flow of reinforcements [such as Ben-Gvir's trainees] will become a routine thing."

Very practiced, very smooth. Message to the public: The settler movement can't be held responsible for anything that goes wrong in the course of its struggle. The one responsible is Sharon.

Message to Ben-Gvir and the boys: Green light.

If the activists and rabbis of the mainstream settler movement were earnestly opposed to violence, they would make the Yehuda Etzions and Itamar Ben-Gvirs persona non grata at their gatherings. They would ostracize the open admirers of Yigal Amir, Baruch Goldstein, and the Jewish terror underground.

Instead, lethal Jewish bigots like these have the run of the anti-disengagement "street," while Omri Sharon, Ehud Olmert, or Shaul Mofaz would have to be nuts to walk around Jerusalem without protection.

The leaders of the settler movement don't want Sharon killed or the Temple Mount mosques destroyed, but the spirit of violent fanaticism is so pervasive in their ranks that any honest attempt to root it out would disrupt the movement entirely, and then who would stop Sharon?

So the warnings of doom, even coming from the Shin Bet and the police, are dismissed with contempt.

I feel like I'm recycling stuff I've written before, and I am – I wrote these same kinds of lines nine years ago, and so did any number of other people. It was in the air. Whatever anybody claims, there were no surprises then, and there will be no surprises if there's a next time, either.

The writer is a veteran journalist.

Here is the response that I wrote to the "Jerusalem Post"

Larry Derfner's article, as he himself admits, "spreads fear, incites against the settlers, and besmirches an entire public." If he had written a similar diatribe against Arab terrorists or Israeli leftists, he would no longer be writing for the Jerusalem Post and might even be arrested under Israel's "Incitement" statutes.

The assassination of Yitzchak Rabin was a disaster not only for the entire Israeli population, but for the so-called "settlers" in particular.

Had Rabin not been assassinated by one deranged individual, Rabin would have admitted that the entire "Oslo Peace Accords" were a terrible mistake and he would have rescinded his participation in this fiasco.

Because of the terrible assassination, the "Oslo Peace Accords" have become some kind of holy sacrament which must be observed with "mesirat nefesh" to the point that the current government is prepared to go through with the expulsion of 7000 Jews from their homes, with no expectation of any kind of reciprocity from the Palestinians, because, as everyone knows, "the settlers" and the "religious Jews" are all "potential assassins" so therefore no type of collective punishment can be deemed severe enough for this entire section of the public.

The "settlers" and the "Orthodox" (including both the hareidim and the religious Zionists) have become the "Christ-killers" of the Israeli left.

Then later on, Mr. Derfner admits "The leaders of the settler movement don't want Sharon killed or the Temple Mount mosques destroyed" which negates his entire argument. The Prophet Zachariah prophecied in the Bible that the Temple Mount will be destroyed by a natural disaster, specifically, by an earthquake. Nor do the " settlers" want any harm to come to the Prime Minister, although he has reneged on all the promises that he made to the very people who elected him in the first place. Any attack made by "settlers" would only speed up the "disengagement (expulsion) plan" so therfore the "settlers" have nothing to gain from any such attempt.

Islamic jihadists are not stupid; they can read Larry Derfner and could very easily commit an attack on the Temple Mount mosques, wearing "settler" disguise (they have been known to masquerade wearing IDF uniforms and hareidi costume), and then sit back and laugh while the Jews get the blame.

Mr. Derfner has either forgotten or chooses to ignore that when right-wing activists (Meir Kahane and Rehavam Ze'evi) were assassinated the Leftists celebrated and cheered.

Mr. Derfner also chooses to ignore the terrorism and the treason of the Israel extreme left, such as the recently indicted Tali Fahima and "the usual gang of idiots" calling themselves "Gush Shalom" and "Peace Now" who have not only incited against the existance of Israel in violation of the anti-incitement laws, but have actually plotted with the Islamic terrorists to murder Jews.

Since Mr. Derfner himself admits that his article contains "incitement" and "besmirches an entire public" he has confessed to "incitement" and "racism" and should turn himself in to the nearest police station.

I'll say this much for Larry Derfner: He has single-handedly demolished the stereotype that Jews are of superior intelligence.

I've met Yehudah `Etziyyon. In fact, he was my "host" when I spent a week in Israel a few years ago. A kinder, milder man you couldn't hope to meet.

I was actually unaware that the standard understanding is that the mosques will be destroyed by an earthquake. In fact, I have wondered for a long time why someone (Jew, Noachide, or militant Zionist Fundamentalist Protestant) hasn't attempted to "force G-d's hand" by destroying them long before now. As it is, those mosques have sat there undisturbed during 37 years of Israeli sovereignty, which I consider scandalous. The Israeli government and secular establishment have basically attached the reverence they are supposed to have to the Holy Temple to the abominations that are occupying the Temple's site.

Thanks for the info and for the report on the continued libels and slanders of the Israeli Left, Alouette.

Well, obviously there's no one more qualified than you. Why don't you jump on a plane to Israel and go blow it up? Obviously HaShem doesn't know what He's doing or going on.

*BOOM*

Why, you'll be famous among the Noachide community! A hero! They might even name a street in Jerusalem after you.

I'm sorry my post offended you. I simply don't understand, with all the spiritual/apocalyptic feelings swirling about the Temple Mount that someone hasn't done more than throw a pig's head up there.

HaShem works miracles once people have done their part. He showed Moses a supernatural vision of the Promised Land only after he traveled to a certain point (though He could have showed it to him where he was). Israel was not given the Land by a miracle but had to fight for it. Neither the First nor Second Temples "descended from Heaven" but had to be built. Whatever HaShem does to bring about the Temple, it will be done only after Israel has done its part to bring it about. The Rabbis Kahana' (zt"l, Hy"d) have explained this quite nicely.

Besides, Willis Carto (mach shemo) freaks out at the thought of "forcing G-d's hand." You can't blame me for wanting someone to make Willis sick at his stomach, can you?
