I wonder when the media plans to get around to reading that, maybe we should ping that 'newsignored.com' guy.

yes, that's it. the same story has been running for a while now - John Loftus has been going with it, saying that the tests at Oak Ridge would prove there was commong material - and that Libya would admit to it, and produce some iraqi scientist to confirm it.

but politically, the "no WMD" premise has been entrenched so deeply - that I don't think the sheeple will understand it.

this stockpile has been under IAEA control since the last gulf war; it's a non-story.

Here is a link to what "yellowcake uranium" is: Yellocake uranium

Basically it is uranium hexafloride (UF6) that has beeen refined from ore. From my calculations uranium has an AW of 238 and the six floride atoms have a combined AW of 114 (19*6), then 500 tons of yellowcake would yeild 260.5 tons of pure uranium and 1.823 Tons (1654 kg) of U235.

That yeilds considerably less (66 weapons) than their number of 142.

Physicist, how did I do? Are my numbers even close?

142 weapons might be a stockpile, but certainly not 66. That would make all the difference.

He said it was 99% U238. He later said it was 0.7% U235.

Right. So 99.7%+ Uranium. Either way, it's not right.

Then what's 66? An 'admirable collection'?

66 nukes is a nit. Certainly not enough to worry about, even in the hands of a megalomaniac serial killer who hates us.

That would be the 'Rats' spin, "It was enough to make ONLY 66 nuclear weapons! The U.S. has MUCH more than that!"

I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying it sounds like a really stupid decision. Hussein could have waited until he had the means to build a bomb and then raided the place and built a few weapons very quickly

Not quite - Yellowcake isn't bomb grade, Hussien would have had to have refined the material which would have required him to build an extensive infrastructure and obtain the necessary equipment (e.g. centrifuges). Given the approach he was taking (using gas centrifuges), it would have taken him upwards of a year to build the infrastructure and refine the material into something usable in a bomb.

As we've heard in the past, there were several estimates by IAEA inspectors that said that prior to the first gulf war he was less than a year away from being able to build a working bomb.

"That would be the same IAEA that did such a bang-up job keeping tabs on North Korea's nuclear program for the last ten years, right up until 2002 when Pyongyang announced - 'Surprise, we have eight nuclear bombs.'" Carl Limbacher - Newsmax

After signing the nuclear non-profliferation treaty in 1985, North Korea refused IAEA inspections for seven years. The first inspections were carried out in 1992. However, North Korea continued to refuse inspection of two key sites at Yongbyon as demanded by the IAEA. Several sites have never been opened to IAEA inspectors.

See http://www.wisconsinproject.org/countries/nkorea/nuke-miss-chron.htm for a timeline.

According to the story it was subject to a once-a-year inspection. What if they decided to mess with it between those inspections? Given our apparent lack of humint in Iraq, would we have ever known?

Sites are typically sealed in such a way as it would be difficult or impossible for them to be entered and re-sealed without being discovered. Also, video monitoring equipment, I believe, was installed at all sites by both the IAEA and U.S. inspectors during the 1990's.

My recollection is that the Kay, et.al, stated there were about 600,000 tons of weaponry in the about 140 depots.

If all that were dynamite, (it isn't all even explosives), that is 600 kilo-Tons. Hiroshima and Nagasaki each had about 20-30kT of power released.

It wouldn't take very many small nukes (such as those) to exceed the full explosive power in SHs arsenal.

NewsMax has leaked that the September report by Dufleur (sp...head of
ISD/Weapons Hunters) will include that Saddam had an active nuclear
bomb program financed by Oil For Food money.

Also in September, Qaddafi is set to come clean about the Axis of evil
Islamic Bomb program. Uranium from Iran (IIRC); scientists from Iraq;
missiles from Syria and North Korea all housed in a hollowed-out
mountain lab in Libya. This info was from a government source, IIRC.

The Donks and EUros will say: it wasn't imminent.

I think there is going to be more on WMD from the ISD report,
personally. I know Dufleur(sp) was a skeptic and I watched him have to
report the 1st sarin IED, then another dozen chem weapons and finally
37 and counting chem shells. Each time, he looked unhappier, if that is
possible. He is a dour guy.
