Ya know,
I am not afraid of spiders or snakes.

But being underground just gives me the willies. This story is going to give me nightmares!

I remember seeing a TV programme a couple of months back in which an assortment of people from trade and industry were invited to take part in a role-playing scenario involving a terrorist attack on London, and this situation was one that they had to deal with. Do you suppose that tape ended up in Afghanistan?

In the TV scenario, when the tunnel was breached beneath the Thames the participants were forced to decide whether to order the closure of watertight doors to localise the flooding, and condemn anyone at or between the affected stations to certain death, or delay the closure and risk a far higher death toll as the flooding spread further into the network. Not an easy decision to make!

they need to run "leaky cable" along the lenghth of the tunnel to maintain radio operations....acts as a giant antenna.

Agreed. No dount their will be casualties in this new global war. After all, the players are just picking sides now.

I will keep two months of light, food and water at all times and go about my life. I trust in Jesus Christ above all things.

We WILL in all probability get hit in NYC again. It's just par for the course. There is nothing we can do about it except vote for Bush to insure we kill at least 100 of them for everyone of us they get because I know that Kerry will be more "sensitive" and negotiate our surrender. That being said we have to be vigilant and not congregate in places that are obvious possible targets unless we need to be there. Even with all that the odds of you being a victim of terrorism are still rather small compared to being murdered or robbed.

There you go. After I posted up, I remembered the old "FM over power lines" stunt that has been popular (and is still used) on campuses and military bases. Same basic idea, I guess, but I don't know how well a "leaky cable"/power-line transmission line would work on the receive side. There'd have to be a lot of notch-filtering or bandpass filtering for harmonics of 60-cycle (or 50-cycle in the UK) hum, for openers.
