I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion....

Loved that movie. I liked the original better than the director's cut.

At the 39th Worldcon in Denver, I was able to see the actual police car from the movie. Unfortunately no pictures were allowed.

What I'd like to know is how to change my preferences back to 250 posts per page. I can only get 1-50, 51-100, etc.

If you're having problems with too many changes, try this:

That's up there with the keywords.

mine will only allow 50 posts per page to display and this is a real pain, it still lets me choose 250 on my Preferences page, but it ignores this and only shows 50.

"I liked how for a few days it was showing how many views per thread. It was very interesting and instructive. "

Thought that was the best new feature. . .nice to know how many are taking a 'look/see'; how many are seeing/getting/sharing the message vs just those who respond.

Where did it go. . .and why?

So you were for all the new changes to the site before you were against them?

What's funny is that sometimes when I'm Googling something, I'll find myself on an oooooold FreeRepublic thread, displayed in the old style, and it now looks so alien to me I wouldn't know how to get around on it, even though that's the style I started out with way back when.

Don't worry, you'll get used to the new one quickly enough, just as we all got used to the "old new one", and the "older new one", etc.

I was just on a tear that day.

But I am still trying to adjust...

I dislike the changes, particularly with the comments segment. It is difficult to tell at a glance who's writing to whom and what should be responded to. It impedes a real good discussion by eliminating the cues for reponse and makes discussion on several threads simultaneously very difficult. Hard to coordinate--I think the discussions are suffering--less interesting and dynamic. Pretty tedious going.

That is truly interesting. Thanks for the link. I will enjoy the old posts.

Have fun. Some of the early stuff they archived the links lead to blank pages, but this time I did 9/14/2001 and noticed there was much more depth to the archives.

Yes. I plan to restore that plus a little enhancement or two soon, perhaps tonight if I can find the time.

Just following up to see if there's any progress with this?

Thanks for your response. I was aware of that. The thing is, I use the forum by clicking on the "browse" link at the bottom of a thread after I've read the replies there. That used to take me back to "News/Activism" messages. Now it takes me to "All" messages instead, which requires an extra step of then clicking on "News/Activism" in the upper right. Will it be staying this way now? Not complaining, just liked the old (one less step) way better.

Heh. The forum name where the article shows is printed on the posts, in the header and footer. Instead of clicking Browse from the posts page, click the name of the forum instead.

But I'm going to make some changes later that may or may not affect how you browse a forum. A sort of retooling of concepts. Plan to work on this part today.
