Islamic Groups Say Saudi Academy Teachings Breed Hatred
WUSA ^

Posted on 08/03/2004 9:42:36 PM PDT by esryle

A northern Virginia school that caters to children of Saudi diplomats is teaching first-graders that Judaism and Christianity are false religions.

The allegations come from a Muslim group. The Free Muslim Coalition Against Terrorism is calling on the Islamic Saudi Academy to remove the textbook used to teach first-graders.

The teachers' edition of the textbook emphasizes several points, including the statement "All religions other than Islam are false religions."

A second notation tells the teacher to ensure "explaining that all religions, other than Islam, are false, including that of the Jews, Christians and all others."

The coalition's director, Kamal Nawash, a Muslim, says to explicitly tell first-graders that Jews and Christians practice a false religion could breed extremism.

The school teaches more than one thousand students at campuses in Alexandria and Fairfax. School officials did not return calls seeking comment.

I intensly dislike Muslims, but they have a right to believe that their religion is the only true one. I believe that my religion is the only true one. We both have a right to teach our children that our religions are the only true ones.

Every religious group that I have ever heard of teaches that all other religions are false. This is a first amendment right.

Now where I have the problem is when a religious group states that you have the right to or will be rewarded for killing another because they don't follow that religion.

They have the right to go to hell, but they don't have the right to kill others who are not a member of their cult. And murder is what Islamic extremism breeds.

"They have the right to go to hell"

That isn't a matter of choice for them.

An extremely telling comment. So far, by my count, anyway, the ONLY religion that has led to "extremism" is Islam. What's your response to that, Kamal?

they have a right to believe that their religion is the only true one. I believe that my religion is the only true one. We both have a right to teach our children that our religions are the only true ones.

There is a basic difference between "Religion X (presumably the speaker's religion) is the only true one" and "Religion Y (presumably not) is a false religion". The latter singles out the religion being named -- and, depending on the context, can reasonably be seen as a form of incitement cloaked by at attempt at "plausible deniability".

For instance, a Christian presumably believes that Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Graeco-Roman polytheism, Amerindian shamanism, etc, are all false religions. It is reasonable to wonder whether a self-professed Christian preacher who goes out of his way to specify this point about, for example, Judaism, and none of the others, is expressing anti-Semitism in addition to (or even instead of) Christian advocacy.
