Not to my knowledge. Rigs around here (Onshore, Montana, North Dakota) have 120 ft. of steel derrick sitting on (and connected to ) a 30 ft. substructure, with a set of iron/steel traveling blocks suspended by 10 loops of heavy steel cable holding up 10,000 ft. of steel drill pipe stuck in the ground. (Simplified version, admittedly). A lightning rod would be just gilding the lilly.

Where I hunt, fish and camp there are sometimes bears, sometimes hogs, and even sometimes flatlander creeps looking for trouble in the wrong camp.

Can't shoot down lightening strikes though. I'm for your method of hightailing it in the Jeep! But if'n the Jeep is miles away...
