Is it possible that this is a set up so Lurch can say "Free speech is more important, set'em free?"
And yet in NYC, a federal judge there has ruled that the police cannot confiscate backpacks without just cause.
So the conservatives will be caged in Boston and in NYC, the terrorists and the radical protestors can carry whatever they want in their backpacks.
This is what a liberal judiciary has brought us...conservatives being treated like animals.
Looks like they put it under a drop forge too.
i dont think its cons who are going to be protesting, its going to be wacko hippies just like every protest. Anarcists , commies and junkies, oh my.
Conservatives dont go to protest marches, they have jobs.
It's a "Tolerance Camp"
Shouldn't they be afforded the same freedoms and venues that Kerry had when he was a protester with Jane Fonda?
Perhaps it's no coincidence that they're holding this thing at a place with the same name as a well-known enema.
Cannot even search backpacks without just cause.
That's right - search backpacks. A ridiculous ruling.
Asolutley!
Needs to be a campaign poster.
Exactly! This is to prevent the kook leftist fringe from ruining the convention like they did in '68. I bet the "conservative" protesters are 1/10000th of the crowd.
I don't think it's for conservatives. The Dems are so paranoid - and want to avoid the appearance of being the ultra-left flakes that they are - that this is for leftist demonstrators (Code Pink, etc.). Conservatives cause no problems, but anarchists do. They want to avoid 1968 redux.
No matter who it's for, it's very creepy, and I'm glad the Pubbies aren't doing it in NYC. (Although I do think that backpacks should be checked...)
is free speech really free speech is it steps on other peoples rights? such as my right to go to work in boston without getting harrased by wackos or have them block traffic
Not just democrats. Clinton did this once, down in Texas. Bush does this all the time and FReepers couldn't be happier. You reap what you sow.
Free-Speech Zone - The administration quarantines dissent.
...When Bush travels around the United States, the Secret Service visits the location ahead of time and orders local police to set up free speech zones or protest zones where people opposed to Bush policies (and sometimes sign-carrying supporters) are quarantined. These zones routinely succeed in keeping protesters out of presidential sight and outside the view of media covering the event.
When Bush came to the Pittsburgh area on Labor Day 2002, 65-year-old retired steel worker Bill Neel was there to greet him with a sign proclaiming, The Bush family must surely love the poor, they made so many of us. The local police, at the Secret Services behest, set up a designated free-speech zone on a baseball field surrounded by a chain-link fence a third of a mile from the location of Bushs speech. The police cleared the path of the motorcade of all critical signs, though folks with pro-Bush signs were permitted to line the presidents path. Neel refused to go to the designated area and was arrested for disorderly conduct; the police also confiscated his sign. Neel later commented, As far as Im concerned, the whole country is a free speech zone. If the Bush administration has its way, anyone who criticizes them will be out of sight and out of mind....
