I WANT MY SEEDS ! ! [shameless vanity]
7-10-04 | EA

Posted on 07/10/2004 10:36:34 AM PDT by EggsAckley

A week or so ago I ordered some farm supplies off of the internet. My county is so business-loathing that I usually have to go out of the county or out on the net to make certain purchases.

I ordered a small portable greenhouse; it arrived a week later. I ordered a gallon of dog/cat repellent; it arrived yesterday. But the fifty pounds of orchard seeds, a grazing mix, has NOT arrived. My UPS driver tells me that it's being "held" at UPS because the county needs to inspect it. He said he saw the box and it was open, but the "inspection lady" hadn't seen it yet.

Now, this is NOT the first time they've done this to me. A couple of years ago I ordered fifty root starts for a tree called Paulownia. THOSE plants, the county CONFISCATED! Yes, confiscated! The Florida company who sold them to me was outraged, and agreed to send me my plants to another, out-of-county address, at no charge. In other words, my county ripped off the Florida company for several hundred dollars.

I WANT MY SEEDS! I want to get my land seeded before the rainy season, and these mental midgets here in Santa Cruz County are preventing me from doing that.

Since I found out about this on late Friday afternoon, of course I'll have to wait till Monday to start making phone calls. Other counties don't do this. Next time I'll have the shipment sent to my friend in Sunnyvale and avoid these Nazis.

/rant off.

You would have to get past the border patrol. CA can't afford to guard the Mexican border completely because they also guard their other borders with the United States. California is a Federal project.

For the most part they can do whatever they want anymore. You can thank the whining, squealing morons (some who frequent this forum) hiding under their bed demanding safety from all evils. You know, the ones that bleat "well if you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide" everytime one of theirs grabs another freedom. Figured that needed to be repeated.. God's wrath is integral in His mercy and love.

Come live in the midwest. Our only border problem is with Arkansas. Well, Kansas during college basketball season.

Check with the county and see if any of the commissioners names happen to be "Guido". ; )

I can understand why they confiscated the Paulownia. Egads, what a mess those things make! Only one tree spawns 2,000,000 seeds, and the things grow like weeds and crowd out more desirable native plants.

Oh, just admit you were wanting to plant pot. Stop hiding behind "business-loathing" inspectors.

For agricultural products, probably.

Due to pest outbreaks and such I would say you are probably right.

I wonder if he can buy it from a local source more easily.

If you had just ordered pot or opium poppy seeds they'd have hand delivered them to your door.

Are they stuck in the county or at the state border?

Damn, next time have the seed supplier mark the package as pornography and put it in a brown wrapper...

Things sure are screwed up with the borders. They stop a 2 ounce houseplant at the border but let 200 tons of pot drive right through.

Agriculture has a duty to inspect incoming fruits, nuts and flakes (look out, San Francisco) for any kind of pests that could ruin our agriculture and thus our economy. I don't know what the story is with EggsAckley's seeds, and I hope it's resolved quickly, but it is routine to check such things.

Believe me, we don't "let" pot drive right through. We look for it, find it, and confiscate it. Sometimes we miss it, but it's definitely not deliberate when we do.

We make seizures all the time, it just doesn't make the news. Had a huge one in Blaine of crystal meth coming from Canada just a few days ago... did anyone outside of Blaine hear about that?

Hey! I ordered some Paulownia trees online a couple of years ago from Atlanta. I live in the heat (-r) of Texas. They were seedlings. Now I have two large trees and one small one. Started with six, but had to transplant and remove some when we did some rearranging in the backyard.

The two originals are now well over 10 feet tall, have huge leaves, and are springing branches now. One transplant survived but is behind the other two in growth.

Tell me about the seedlings that spring up? I haven't seen any. I would love to have more.

btw, they were shipped regular mail and I had no trouble getting them.

Thankee. And you are correct, sir or madam. I once had a CO (Navy, a long time ago) who acted a lot like Col. O'Neill. I dragged him out of as many bars after closing time as he did me.
