The who won what?
I moved away with the family as a child.
I don't miss it at all and haven't been back.
Believe it or not, my family has been firmly ensconced within Kings County for the past three generations!
Mine have been there since the 1700s. We kind of started the civil war and were very responsible for the ending of slavery in America.
Now, if only we can relieve California of effective liberalism rule we would be keeping up the family tradition.
Something tells me that my family got out at exactly the right historical moment.
I don't think that my grandparents or parents would be particularly comfortable living in modern Ireland.
Not so impressive, I'm sure there is pigeon excrement crowning some bronze statue of some historic relative of mine right now in NY. LOL
There is one sliver of the family in New York that went bad on my mothers side decades ago.
Just my way of saying that there are good things and bad things in every family. The thing you can do as a conservative is to foster more good things for your family tree.
For me, reading her is like looking at the proverbial train wreck -- I know I shouldn't look, but I'm just astonished at how disastrous her columns are.
But lots of people hated the Cowboys, particularly when they were winning. The same goes with the Yankees. So-called "America's Teams" like the Cowboys, Yankees, and Lakers may have fan bases outside their geographic territories, but they also have anti-fan bases!
My two favorite players on this year's Laker drama saga were Malone and Derek Fisher. Malone is a stand-up guy, who was as much a reason of the Lakers' success as Shakobe.
I was watching ABC after the game, and felt sorry for Fisher for having to be the fall guy to talk to the media there.
However...if I EVER see Gary Payton on the street, this whining geriatric sorry excuse for a basketball player--I might have to call down fire from heaven......
What's the story on him? And why did he get a better deal with the free agent exemption than Malone did?
One other thing -- I know I'm stating the obvious, but Kobe certainly has had a huge fall from grace over the past year, and I'm not just talking about the rape trial. He looked like a very selfish player on the court during the finals. So much for his guarantee that the Lakers would win Tuesday.
Who gives 2$hits about the NBA. They ought to raise the basket about 3FT. and they ought to allow more white guys to play the game and bring some respect back to the game.
My own family history is little bit hazy, though I know that there are records of some sort that document an English relative-supposedly from the same Perry family tree-that was living in the United States around the same time as the War of 1812.
Even though people don't believe it, Perry is actually an Irish name. Though, you don't see it on many family crests at your typical Irish fair.
Personally, I love my little niece and nephew to death, but when I actually have to read of/hear about other's children, I want to claw my eyes out with the serrated edges of my fingernails.
I can see why some people might enjoy her folksy, homespun, charming, "Gee, my three year old did the cutest thing with his boogers yesterday" type anecdotes, but for me, it's the epitome of tortuous prose.
Uggghhh!
Please, won't one of the editors there try to do her in, ala Ann Coulter, and spare us the needless agony of yet another one of her horrendous columns?
Wow. That's impressive. I expected other news, as did a lot of others on this thread. Based on past experiences, I am happy to hear the people of Detroit handled themselves so well after this fantastic upset.
I was in Chicago for several of the championship years and never understood why winning the trophy incited people to turn over cars and get violent.
Anyone remember what happened during the last real New York City black-out?
They definitely do, nothing like jumping on the bandwagon, judging from this thread alone there are like 1 or 2 actual Detroit fans and about 3 dozen Laker haters. They are much like Bush haters with their foaming at the mouth stupidity and gives everyone a taste of what's to come if (shudder) Kerry wins the election this fall.
Queens won a world championship in 1969, and 1986. :)
(Ah, the team from Flushing, Queens, LI, NYC, NY!)
I'm bookmarking this thread just like I did the postmortem thread when the Diamondbacks beat the supposedly unbeatable Yankees. I have a feeling sometime down the road, you'll see this thread being pinged to you.
The few times that I've visited Queens, I've been overwhelmed. It's just a case of sensory overload.
If living in Kings County is like working for the EU over in Brussels, than living in Queens County is equivalent to being an ambassador to the U.N.
TOO MUCH! IT'S JUST TOO MUCH!
I hear ya. I'm a Yankee fan, so I'm used to people bashing my team, and gloating whenever the Yanks lose (last years World Series thread for Game 6 got pretty ugly with such stuff.) But consider it a compliment in this way -- nobody hates the mediocre teams; it's only the consistently successful ones that draw out such anger.
