Beirut -- Iran reportedly is readying troops to move into Iraq if U.S. troops pull out, leaving a security vacuum.
The Saudi daily Al-Sharq al-Awsat, monitored in Beirut, reports Iran has massed four battalions at the border.
Al-Sharq al-Awsat quoted "reliable Iraqi sources" as saying, "Iran moved part of its regular military forces towards the Iraqi border in the southern sector at a time its military intelligence agents were operating inside Iraqi territory."
I guess they haven't heard of a little thing called the United States Air Force?
They may also be preparing their own October Surprise to give Jean-Francois Kerry a boost.
Maybe a June 30 surprise.
The Imams and Clerics probably, through state controlled propoganda, have the military and people of Iran thinking we just barely won the war, and that we'll be no problem should they try to take advantage of the situation.
Until you have seen a B52 bombing run - it is not possible to imagine the power.
Ten US Navy Carriers
Now At Sea - Only Two In Port
USS Carl Vinson Has Gone Out
From Radwick
6-10-4
This brings the number of carriers over the horizon to 10.
This would prove to be a most COSTLY exercise if in fact this is ONLY an exercise.
OR,Are they all on emergency operational deployment???
Of the remaining 2 carriers only USS Nimitz is deployable as the USS Eisenhower is having its nuclear power plant refuelled and will be out of commission for several years.

Seven carrier battle groups deployed in "summer pulse 04".

Notice how the article says that the seven carriers deployed represent every carrier that is seaworthy. When in reality there are now 10 carriers at sea. Completely unprecedented.
Seven Carrier Strike Groups Underway for Exercise "Summer Pulse 04"
The seven aircraft carriers involved in "Summer Pulse 04" will include: the Norfolk-based USS George Washington CSG and the San Diego-based USS John C. Stennis CSG, both currently deployed, and Yokosuka, Japan-based USS Kitty Hawk. The Mayport, Fla.-based USS John F Kennedy CSG will begin a combined and joint exercise early this month, followed by a scheduled overseas deployment. The Norfolk-based USS Harry S. Truman CSG will conduct a scheduled training exercise followed by overseas pulse operations with the Norfolk-based USS Enterprise CSG, beginning early this month. USS Ronald Reagan will conduct operations in the U.S. Northern Command and U.S. Southern Command theaters during the ship's interfleet transfer from Norfolk, Va., to its Pacific Fleet homeport of San Diego.

Very unusual....especially as most of UK royal navy put to sea a few weeks ago....

This story was posted today. It's only about a brigade- made up of small battalions. Probably more symbolic than anything else.
They train suicide bombers, won't cooperate with inspectors, and now this. What does a member of the axis of evil have to do to get publicly threatened by us?
Followed up with an entire wing of A-10s flying in echelons of threes, nose slightly down and .........
Followed by US attack choppers to clean up any stragglers.
What if Iran has nukes? Maybe a few battalions is all they want on the front.
Don't suppose they are just tourist wanting to visit the new pizza joints? naa, more likely they wish to set the tables on fire and pillage the Parmesan cheese coffers, and to think the these guys are the ones who complained that the Shaw took advantage of the local peasants!
Remember the "highway of death" in '92? Well, I think it's time we gear those Stratofortresses up for another run. .....this time for a little "border of death" action.
We should probably assume that they do have them already.
Surprises like nukes are never a good thing.
"C'mon little mice...just follow the scent to the cheese...and take a nibble..."
We could end up with a twofer here. If only we could get Syria to join with the Iranians. Now that would be frosting on the cake!!!
Give the Iranians fair warning first. Play a CD of Jennifer Lopez singing for a full night and if they haven't evaporated by morning you can follow up with a Yoko Ono tune to finish whoever is left.
Lord, protect us from idiots in Wash, the UN and elsewhere. Let us deal with this decisively!

(READ THIS, PLEASE)
You think there'd be a few survivors left over from the Taliban to tell them what B-52s and WCMD (INS-guided cluster bombs) can do to troops in the open.
Unless they choose to walk, their motor transport will show up as a nice, bright line to our JSTARS, and we've got A-10s at Balad just waiting to go nuts on 'em.
On the other hand, if they choose to walk, so as to avoid our surveillence systems, then we've got a few thousand bright spots on AC-130 IR displays.
There is a reason that the Iraqis chose to fight in cities, such as Nasiriyah. Troops in the open are just waiting to be destroyed by air power.
I agree and hope that the Iranian people are with us.

That's right.
There is no troop build up.
hmmmm .... I wonder just how far along the LASER Weapon that we are just now are hearing that DOD is developing really is? Remember how we SUDDENLY found out that the STEALTH fighter (F-117A) had been in full operation for 10 years when DOD was only talking in the press of its development?
*L* Exactly. Last year at an air show I actually came within 10ft of an F117-A in a STATIC DISPLAY. They had it cordoned off and two guys with M16s standing guard over it. I remember thinking 'Oh shit what are they working on NOW....?'
The Iranians, along with much of the Muslim world, are mistaking US restraint in its attack on Saddam's Iraq, which was not intended to devastate the country (and didn't),and the difficulties in trying to pacify and stabilize the nation without destroying it, for a lack of military prowess. As Al jolson once said (as echoed by the Gipper): "You aint seen nothin' yet!"
Bad form, Mr. Khatami! Was there not another fearless leader who liked to play with guns? Where is he now?
Hmmm. Where have I heard something like that before?
If I correctly remember the makeup of four battalions, it's only about 800 men. Hardly worth using the term "massing".
My guess is they know the Iraqies wont ask the US to leave after june 30 if they are ammassed there using our troops as pawns in our own elections to try and give kerry the ammo to shoot at Bush and at the same time making the Iraqie people nervous about soverignty
Asking us to leave would hurt them keeping us there hurts them and us but now if we do it right we could strike dead at iran and be well justified in pulling troops from korea and germany to do it re-enforcing our strengths and teaching iran a valuable lesson in FUBAR !
The Iranian high command must have missed the "Bring It On" news conference.
Do we have UN approval and every nation on earth as allies for this pending operationm? No? Good!
Got news for Iran. Our guys won't be leaving Iraq for a long, long, time.
If Iran really wants to have nukes I thing we should let them have a few. We could have them there in less than an hour.
Keep your head down!
Stock up on water!!
and toilet paper!
I wouldn't be surprised if Iran doesn't demonstrate its nuclear capability this summer.
I wouldn't be too surprised to see Iranian attacks into Iraq in coordination with terrorist strikes here at home and maybe elsewhere in the world as well.
