" Nobody's ever heard of the guy! " The Smiths are, or were, Mike Joyce, Johnny Marr, Stehpen Morrissey and Andy Rourke. In an intense 5 years Between 1983 and 1987 The Smiths released almost 20 singles and 7 albums, and are recognised by the critics as one of the most significant bands of the 1980's. It is difficult to believe that Morrissey has been a solo artist longer than 2 lifetimes of The Smiths, but his impact on the music industry declined significantly after 1987.

Someone once talked me into buying a Smiths album back in the 80s. What a hunk of crap that was.

Agreed, just picked up the story on Yahoo. This guy is an underground cult type and his words are meaningless.
This little bitch is nothing more than a has been that never was.
"Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now" and "Shoplifters of the World Unite."
This claim to fame will now come to the headlines??? The left is Sooooo desperate. Whats next?
Moderator, this piece of garbage may bring us all a skin rash or something. Just pull this garbage.

I liked the Smiths a lot, but what made them great was Johnny Marr's guitar. It made Morrissey somehow tolerable as he warbled and yodeled on about his mother, his weltschmerz, butt piracy, etc.
For more great Johnny Marr, listen to Soul Mining and Dusk by The The.

You shut your mouth
How can you say
He goes about things the wrong way?
He is Human and he needs to be loved
Just like everybody else does
Ah, you'd have had to have been a child of the 80's...

Back in the days of Nirvana, I something told me that Kurt Cobain's self-loathing wasn't just an act. I said to myself, "Somehow this guy's going to die young."
With Morrissey my mind tells me, "This guy's just going to end up a mean old man."

I saw this guy once on MTV singing "the more you ignore me" or whatever the hell that stupid song was, and I remember thinking that it had to be the gayest video and song I ever seen since that Wham song "wake me up before you go go". I thought his career died after that abomination but obviously there`s a market out there for extremely effeminate mincing males.

Soul Mining - Matt Johnson - Jools Holland - Good stuff.
"A broken soul stares from a pair of watering eyes uncertain emotions force an uncertain smile..."
The Smith's did one good song: "How soon is now"
