You just made my point. If what used to be labelled a 14-16 is now labelled a 10-12, then what used to be labelled a 10-12 was the size of current 6-8. If you wore a 10-12 in older sizing systems, and haven't gained weight, then the new 10-12s are too big for you. If those vintage 14-16s fit you, and modern 10-12s fit you, then modern 14-16s are too big for you, because they're BIGGER than old 14-16s.

Same thing has happened to men's clothes; what's even more ridiculous is that men's sizes are in inches, so the size on the label is just a lie. I just bought a pair of 30" waist shorts, and found the waist actually measures 33".

I bought two pair of 32's last year that were only 31. Had me worried for a while.

Oh gee after years and years of criticism they're finally starting to take some of the things into account that they should have taken into account from the very beginning. Maybe they'll fix it for adults too one of these days.

Of course that's the "BMI-for-age" which is different than the normal BMI which is what this article and I am discussing. You still lose.

BMI-for-age not the same thing as BMI. More clintonian word games.

What in blazes does smoking have to do with it. More red herring BS from the red herring BS master.

Nothing. Neither does it mean anything for you to say that if one is not following the Atkins diet it is the fault of the diet plan.

I didn't say the diet is at fault.

It is a tool, nothing more. A tool to be used by those that know how to use the tool. Obviously you don't know how.

All tools come with limitations and restrictions. Of course you would say that if your wood chisel broke while trying to cut nails with it, it was be useless.

Yeah, and it happens to be a terribly flawed tool that is frequently used by people that think the government should do something about the so-called obesity epidemic. I know exactly how to use the BMI, I ignore it completely and let my PT break out with the calipers and calculate my body fat percentage.

(your #41)

"But it still starts off with that unhealthy nod to instant gratification."

And your still ignoring my request to show where there is an 'unheathy nod to instant gratification'.

It is a tool that is frequently used by people in the private, anarchist, market trying to make a buck! I showed you the .gov CDC excerpt where it is being used in a responsible manner.

My ruler is terrible flawed. Why just yesterday I tried to measure a cup of sugar out with it and got sugar all over the counter. I wish the government hadn't mandated that we measure things in inches with a ruler.

The induction phase provides instant gratification, that's potentially unhealthy. If someone follow the rest of the diet they'll be OK, if they don't bad things will happen. That's a potential problem with how some people mange their Atkins diet. The diet would be over all safer without the induction phase so that the instant gratification junkies wouldn't be attracted to it. In the end the fault is with the dieter, but you've got to have some understanding of your audience.

Please state how it is potentially unhealthy. Eating is potentially unhealthy. Please be specific.

The term BMI is often used when discussing the obesity epidemic,

Yeah, they're being so responsible.

If you're using the wrong tool for the job then that's your fault. If you want to determine whether or not you need to lose weight the BMI is the wrong tool for the job because it doesn't take into account vital information necessary to make that determination.

On the other hand if you want to claim there's a terrible epidemic of fatness in America then the BMI is the perfect tool for the job.

I think I see your point. It is not with the diet but with the 'attractive nuisance' angle. Similar to having a swimming pool. There is no problem with a swimming pool but it attracks kids who might drown so you have to put up a locked gate to keep them out.

That makes the pool safer, right!

Yawn. Dude, the induction phase completely irradicates major food groups from your diet, while that's OK in the short term doing it for prolonged periods is potetially lethal. Every anti-Atkins article discusses this, of course they're problem is they never read past the induction phase, any dieter that does the same is making a big mistake.
