---As long as I live I will never forget watching CSPAN on Election Day 1992 at around 2:00 P.M. Central Time. They showed President Bush going to Oshman's Sporting Goods in Houston and buying a fishing real.---
The elder Bush was in a fishing boat somewhere off Maine, when the troops were getting ready to invade Iraq in Desert Storm. The man seriously likes his fishing.
If the President governs domestically like a Democrat, as bad as Kerry is, the polls begin to make sense. If people are given a choice between the real liberal article and a pretend "compassionate conservative" one, they will choose the real article every time. And if President Bush loses, its not a reflection on real conservatism in America. It will due to his failure to govern like Ronald Reagan did in reducing spending and getting government out of our lives.
People are asking, what does President Bush want to do for the next four years besides prosecuting the war on terror? If its giving us bigger government spending, they will go with Kerry.
Panic panic panic panic panic. Please, I'm going to sleep.
Gallup is showing W's approvals rising to 49% while he is simultaneously dropping in the horse race numbers.
In fact, the last time W. had a lead over Kerry in Gallup was when his approvals were at 46%
What's with Gallup this year?
That is an unfair comparison. I will not do anything to lessen the celebration of Ronald Reagan's life this week but the Gipper was NOT more conservative than GW nor did he govern more conservatively.
Thanks for posting the column. I do not agree with Joseph Farah's opinion. (too late to state all the reasons I disagree)
---if half of America really believes that the bozo kerry would be better than Bush for our country...then we are doomed---
To believe these polls seriously diminishes my optimism, not to mention my sense of reality. Therefore I simply don't accept these polls as valid. They are bogus. Kerry has no more chance of being elected president as I do.
It would be a sad day for the world if Kerry would win.
But he won't!
The economic news are great at the moment, the oil prices are going down (today the petrol prices are lowered in Sweden due to the drop in the international market), the situation in Iraq is improving (there will be an agreement in UN tonight, the French and Russians are caving in).
So what weapon will Kerry use? - his great personality?
Come now, Mr Kerry for sure isn't a Clinton (ie a good campaigner) and GW Bush is not like his father or like Carter.
If you want to follow the polls at this early stage follow the state polls...
....and keep the faith.
ScaniaBoy
It's not good when we do better with just "registered voters" folks...
Usually the GOP does better with likely voters......not in this case.
THIS IS VERY VERY BAD...
Some of us are stuck on an island in the South Pacific. What is it in January that dropped Bush and Raised Kerry voters in this poll amongst registered voters?
Exactly. People love Ronald Reagan but his popularity isn't being transferred to President Bush. Conservatives have to stop to ask themselves why it isn't happening.
He is also President.
I won't be concerned about the campaign until there actually IS an official opponent that he is running against.
Right now Kerry has not even been nominated.
Nobody gives a crap about the election until after the conventions.
Doomsayers all!
Get a grip. The undecided do not know John Kerry. So many things to change the tide: Iraq handover, Sadaam Trial, Convetion, Olympics, DEBATES, Sept. 11 anniversary, later convention, wmd, osama, attack abroad or here, dems going nutty at their convention, overzealous 527 ads, gas prices drop, jobs keep being added, inflation stay low...etc.
There is also something called the Electoral College. Not to mention President Reagan who was down just ten days before the 1980 election and went on to cream Carter (helps he was from Cali).
Where is the Reagan optimism that has been quoted so often these last few days? The choice will be starkly clear come November. I'm not being complacent but it seems there is only so much strategery to be done before one tries to be something they are not. And Dubya will come out peachy keen with a little Reagan shine to boot if he sticks to his regular classy self. Pubbie underlings and supporters can throw some dirt but it will be clear who is the adult and who is a sixty-year-old snotty, golddigging child.
So volunteer and keep the faith!
---THIS IS VERY VERY BAD...---
or VERY VERY BOGUS...
Kerry leads among LIKELY voters. This is not good news and we better stop pretending its going to come out roses in November. We have to be realists and face the fact we may very well get a President Kerry.
Of course I am a bit concerned that the Dems are winning the likely voter category than we are.
That is pretty darn worrisome......that hardly ever happens and is not a good sign.
The strangest part of these Gallup polls though is the fact that in their past 3 polls, Bush's standing in the horserace has decreased as his approval rating has increased.
Bush needs to force Kerry into the open. Kerry is able to keep close by taking advantage of free media bashing Bush 24/7 and keeping a low profile. Kerry always drops as people see more of him.
