I thought she was a Republican?
I also thought that Melissa Gilbert was a conservative Republican until I saw an interview with her husband Bruce Boxleitner. He said that HE is a conservative Republican and that his wife is a liberal Democat.
She played Boxleitner's character's ressurected wife/alien on the show for a couple of episodes, and is a personal friend to some of the B5 actors, IIRC.
None of this surprises me at all.
This is pretty much what I'd expect to read from the Screen Actors Guild.
In fact, there's nothing wrong with the text of the message at all. Reagan DID grow more conservative as many labor union headed (ideologically) in the opposite direction.
As head of the SAG, he DID do the things Melissa Gilbert credits him with.
Other than the fact that they could have issued the press release sooner, there's nothing wrong here.
FWIW, she appeared, along with her husband, at a benefit for Jerry Doyle (R) for Congress back in 2000. http://www.doyleforcongress.com/pastevent.html (Just a short way down the page.)
Hostility?? or Debate??
If you post...Fr will comment.
It's not that bad. You're being a tad touchy.
I miss the old days when Johnny Carson ruled and the public was a whole bunch gall-dang smarter.
She was described as both a moderate and a republican in the thread titles.

Maybe my problem is that I take words literally and always have.
Archive search bookmarks expire after one hour.
I don't think it is hostility. Unlike the DU site, we just try to be fair to all sides. I would hate to see us become Kool-aid drinkers like on the dum underground.
My thoughts exactly. :-p
I am assuming you realize that the term "labor movement" refers to organized labor unions, and not people who work.
(1) I know she is president of SAG. A monkey who can read would know that based on the the statement this thread is attached to. (2) I think it would be more reasonable for you to provide the evidence to support your contention that she's a liberal democrat. Quite a few on this thread disagree with you. Stopy crying Wolf and get busy providing some evidence.
Thanks for background.
Good God. The man died in the middle of a weekend. SAG is a union, not a news source. I don't find anything unreasonable for them to have waited until they showed up for work to post her statement on their own website.
Here is one thread...
Screen Actors Guild to Elect President (Republican Melissa Gilbert could be chosen)
Post after post after post on the matter called her a republican. I guess they could have all been wrong.
I don't beleive so. I think she's a Democrat, and "conservative" only in relation to Hollywood standards.
Debate is fine. Even those who say I'm being overly sensitive or touchy. Perhaps they are right. What I was referring to is not hostility to me, personally, but to the point of the thread. SAG took two days after RWR passed to get around to making any kind of statement. Then, when they do, it contains what amounts to an apology to SAG members for the fact that RWR became a conservative.
