Yates home finds buyer08:38 PM CDT on Thursday, May 27, 2004
HOUSTON The home where Andrea Yates drowned her five children three years ago has been sold after being on the market for nearly six months.
The three-bedroom, two-bath house was listed for $109,900 and sold last week, real estate agent Mike Canary told the Houston Chronicle on Thursday. Sale price and buyer identity were not disclosed.
Ms. Yates was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life for the June 2001 drownings of three of her children: Noah, 7; John, 5; and Mary, 6 months. She confessed to drowning two others, Paul, 3; and Luke, 2.
"People still drive by and take pictures and brochures for souvenirs," neighbor Stephen Johnson told Houston television station KTRK. "When someone moves in, it will be all over for us."

These people need their heads checked.
Let's hope that the new oweners do an exorcism or something similar on the property before moving in. Of course, they could be like that people that bought Lizzie Borden's old home and turned it into a tourist attraction.
Lemme guess -- Rusty Yates has a new honey lined up who he can spawn more children with, and she doesn't want to live in the house?
People in Hamilton NJ paid for the house where Megan Kanka was murdered and tore it down and turned it into a park.
I pray that the people who bought the Yates house at least have the decency to remodel the bath.

$109,000??? That doesn't even rate as a "starter" home these days, does it?
I'm waiting to see the bath tub on ebay.
Houston house prices a bit more reasonable compared to the rest of the country. This however still looks like a fire sale.
Yep !I found these in the corner of my massive list of pics .....
Andrea Yates
Rusty Yates
That sounds like Rusty alright.
I was thinking the same thing.
Home prices in the South are MUCH lower than the rest of the country. You can get a pretty nice home for that price or lower around here.
The same was done to the John Wayne Gacy house...
In TX land and homes are cheap. I live in a 3/2/2 1450 sq ft made in 1992. It has updates and is in excellent condition. It is appraised at under $120000. Land has always been cheap in TX.
There are many people who are interested, no, OBSESSED with 'true crime' stories.
I think it's quite morbid and possibly a symptom of some psychological problem.
The house price is astonishing to me.
A small 2 bedroom cape is for sale down the street from me(with a postage stamp lot) and it's listed for $459,000.Our median home price is $650,000.
Some fool will buy it and then the bubble will probably burst.
Pictures? Souvenirs?
Words fail me!
I don't know, I don't think a coat of paint will take the evil vibes out of that house. I couldn't live there,,sort of a bad karma thing or superstition. Maybe they ought to get the house Blessed or something.
I just sold my 800 sq. ft. 2b/1b home for $337K. Of course, it's in a coastal town in CA, so that might have something to do with it. Moving to St. Paul, MN next month, where I'll get at least twice the house for half the price. It's a retirement move, and for some other family reasons.
Medians in my county are hovering at $450K.
Thanks for the info - prices are so high here in MI, not to mention elsewhere, that I had no idea houses could be had for a reasonable price!
When a kindergartner was murdered by a jail escapee in our old neighborhood, the sightseers parked on the next block and walked over to rubberneck, even though it was still an active crime scene. According to one of my friends, they kept coming by for days (as well as the reporters looking for "reaction"), slowing down, pointing, sometimes parking & coming over to stare at the house.
It was creepy.
Hope the place isn't haunted especially the bathroom.
boo ! :^)Have a great weekend !
Brand-new, 2300 sq. ft. homes with all the amenities on 100'x80' lots go for around $250K. I think median price is right around $100K.
I'm still a "Poltergeist" fan. Have a good weekend yourself. :)
Being a victim of one would probably break them of that real quick, thus helping them regain their sanity.

I hope anyone who buys a home in Cedar Rapids enjoys the smell of burning oats from the Quaker Oats factory. I drive through Cedar Rapids fairly frequently, and it's a smell you won't ever forget once you experience it. To be fair, it's not evident every time I drive through just about half the time.
Gosh, I have thirty acres and a 3000 sf home twenty minutes from everywhere for 300k
::coughcough::Laci Peterson::coughcough::
I've had 3 homes here over these past 21 years -- all on the NE side -- and have yet to smell it or any of the other legendary CR aromas at home (the meat-packing/rendering plants are all gone, by the way ;O).
Besides, I actually like the smell of the Quaker Oats factory. Cargill is a different matter.

Maybe it's Cargill you smelled. They're both downtown, along I-380. It certainly depends on the winds.
Back in '83 or so, the sewage treatment plant caught fire. I smelled that 10 or so miles away at my Marion apartment.
Twenty minutes from where I live, you can get a 4 bdroom, 3500 sq foot house for $80k.
I spent a summer in Harrisonburg, VA. There was a Purina plant there and the whole town smelled like a bag of dogfood.
