(Cheshire-WTNH, Apr. 20, 2004 Updated 10:00 AM) _ It's a messy morning for commuters in part of the state. Serious accidents are tying up major thoroughfares.

I-84 eastbound at Exit 26 in Cheshire is closed due to a fiery tractor trailer accident at a bridge crossing over a construction area. The road will be closed until around 1:00 PM due to the roadway melting from the fire.

"It's just like Bridgeport," State Police spokesman Sgt. J. Paul Vance said, referring to a crash and fire that melted part of I-95 in Bridgeport last month. Sgt. Vance says workers are checking the integrity of the bridge.

Sgt. Vance said it looks like cases of empty beer bottles spilled from truck. No serious injuries reported. A service bus may have been involved in that crash.

The driver of the truck has to be rescued from the vehicle. There was no word on the driver's condition.

The Westbound lanes of I-84 are also delayed because of 'rubberneckers,' Sgt. Vance said.

Causing even more headaches, some vehicles in the backup have been reported to have run out of gas, blocking the left lane.

In Portland, the Arragoni Bridge on Route 66 has been closed because of a head-on, multi-vehicle accident. The bridge is closed until further notice.

Also this morning, an accident involving a tractor-trailer is blocking one lane of I-91 North at Exit 17 in Meriden, And in West Hartford, a three vehicle crash stalled traffic in the Eastbound lanes near Exit 39a.

"accident-S..."

Over bridges and involving fuel trucks....

Maybe it is time that our govt quit lying to Americans and admit that Ilamic muslim terrorists have been committing atrocities inside our borders for OVER 30 years!

It is time we exercise our Second Amendment right - get your guns and ammo and go to an accredited range and begin to learn how to shoot and destroy your enemies.

You cannot "play nice" with these murdering terrorists - you have to KILL them before they kill you.

I'm not here to die for my country --- I am here to make that other SOB die for his!

The problem with the Arrigoni Bridge is that it is narrow, and not a terribly high-volume roadway. There are collisions on it pretty frequently - only 2 lanes of traffic in each direction, with no sort of median or separation between the sides.

This is nowhere near the I-95 incident. It simply doesn't inconvenience enough people (although those who usually commute across the river at that point are pretty mad right now).

The potential problem I see is that "escape" routes out of New York City north and east are getting trashed, one by one.
