No quarrel with any of this, especially about the grits cook.
I remind you that Nixon was not real likeable and he won. But then Dukasis lost. Ike, Reagan Bush ll were all likeable. I thought Dole was likeable, but you had to know him. George Busha Sr. was earnest until he revoked his tax pledge.
Clinton was likeable although I despised him.

The American people, who are very "appearance" oriented, will notice that Kerry's face goes through constant phases, young to old depending on the duration of his botox.

Since no one is going to see my thoughtful post :o) on another thread that went dead, I'll use your article by Bob Woodward to segue into it here:
To people like Roger Simon, President Bush's refusal to apologize is like Richard Nixon saying "I am not a crook." Leftists want to bring him down just like they did "Tricky Dick." They even managed to get a Watergate guy on the 9/11 Commission, Ben-Veniste. Who can forget the puppet master Hillary's involvement with the impeachment hearings of President Nixon? And now we have Deep Throat Woodward coming out with his book essentially equating the secrecy of the Bush administration to that of the Nixon era. He surely longs for his salad days of Martha Mitchell and White House leaks.
It's almost as if they wanted the August 6, 2001 memo to be a Rosemary Woods tape erasure moment. John Dean, a Nixon staffer, has recently published his "Worse than Watergate" diatribe.
The Dims see Watergate as their last successful toppling of a Republican president and they want to achieve it again. The leftwing media felt its influence greatly increase during Watergate; it was the Viagra of the 1970s, an inflation of their lust for power.
The Democrat presumed candidate for president, John Kerry, is doing his pompous best to assist in their supposed recipe for success by adding his own flavor of Vietnam-as-Nixon's-War into the mix. Makes one wonder if this was part of the so-called grilling of Kerry at Al Franken's apartment by members of the press, with them agreeing that Kerry's protest days are just the right ingredient for the main course, "Rehash". Perhaps their masterpiece will be considered "done" on August 8, 2004, the 30th anniversary of Richard Nixon's resignation.
Our greatest weapon against this Time Machine tactic is the truth via the internet, especially a website called Free Republic.

From today's Meet the Press I know what its like to almost die.
Seems to be a theme.... various Kerry quotes found on Google....they go on and on
"I know what it's like to try to choose between friend and foe in a foreign country when you're carrying out the policy of your nation,"
"I know what it's like for these guys, who are going down streets and they suck in their breath, and they don't know where the rocket's coming from, and they're standing guard and they don't know if the station wagon that's driving at them is a bomb or a family.."
"I know what it's like to be spied on by the government, because that's what they did to me when I came back and stood up against the war."
"But I know what it's like to come from behind. I'm known as a good closer, and I intend to be a good closer in this campaign.''
And this is REALLY interesting....from a Dec. 4, 2002 article, quoting John Kerry on MTP:
He continued, "I've seen people die and I know what it's like to almost die. I don't think that -you know, dying is scary for a while, but in the end, the punishment is gone. When you're alive and you're deprived of your freedom each day
that is tough, my friend."
Almost verbatim what he said on TODAY's MTP

Kerry on Meet the Press:
I said I would send Carter and Baker as representatives to the Middle East, before I said I wouldn't send Carter and Baker to the Middle East.
[Above, not the exact quote, but the meaning is another flipflop. Below, exact quote from transcript.]
-------------
From the
Kerry on MTP, actual transcript:
MR. RUSSERT:
You also said in December that you would consider as presidential ambassadors to the Middle East President Clinton, but also former President Carter and Secretary of State Baker. You then met with Jewish leaders and said, "I will not send Carter or Baker." Why?
[Kerry's response is a bunch of gobbledygook.]
SEN. KERRY:
I think that what I was trying to talk about, Tim, was a kind of potential for bipartisanship as to how you might be able to approach putting a special envoy in place. The names obviously need to be acceptable to everybody within the community. You've got to do that as a matter of diplomacy. Subsequent to those names being floated, obviously, some people have different views about it.

Does anyone have access to Nexis/Lexis? When Bob Dole ran for President against Klinton, he left the Senate basically taking an "all or none" approach. My recollection is that he was under hugh Democractic pressure to resign, so he did. I'd love to find out if Kerry was ever quoted on the subject, and if he was trying to push Dole out the door.
If so, I think we could have a two-fer in November ... Bush defeats Kerry AND Kerry has given up his Senate seat.
Anyone up to the search task?

I don't recall Dem pressure on Dole. As I remember it, Dole was behind in the polls and HIS campaign came up with the "resignation day" strategy to get some traction. I doubt if you'll find a Kerry comment worth looking for.
As for Kerry staying in the Senate, the Dems who control the Massachussetts legislature are trying to change the law that would allow the Republican governor to name his temporary replacement. Until that's done, Kerry will stay where he is. Don't count on the media pressing him to resign.

Bush did fine at his press conference, if you understand the goal. Yesterday, even liberal pundits were discussing how stupid the media appeared in their coordinated attacks.Today's FNS panel, including Brit Hume, criticized Bush's 'weak' answer to the fifth 'tell us what you did wrong' question.
I have to conclude that the pundits missed what the President accomplished with his 'aw shucks, if you wait long enough, I'm sure I'll come up with something' answer. He turned the whole focus of the event onto the shallowness of the 'press corpse.' (e intentional)
I think their pride will not let them admit that they were snookered.

I think that Bush is preparing the public for the fallout from the CFR bill, when nobody but the Media will be allowed to comment on the election those last 60 days. Bush is destroying Media credibility. Nothing said in those last 60 days is going to sway anyone but the dumbest of the dumb.
During that period, Bush will unleash his funds and beat up Kerry who wont have the money to respond on his own. The Media will try to help Kerry, but if they are discredited(and they are) it wont do any good.
I also believe those 60 days will include WMD and Osama's dna tests.

The press asks Bush if he can admit to a mistake and he starts to climb under the podium. Bush could not finesse it. Please, and this is a serious request, could you give me your idea of what the President should have or could have said.
My debate skills are weak, and even days after the press conference I have not been able to think of any response, finessed or not, that would not have laid him bare to world wide headlines.
The Baltimore Sun already had theirs written in 2 inch high type "BUSH ADMITS MISTAKES".
At the end of the press conference they had to reduce the type size slightly and print "BUSH DOES NOT ADMIT MISTAKES."
After 45 minutes of questions surely a responsible newspaper could have decided on a better headline then that, but the Press Corps is completely agenda driven, and the President understands this Very Well.

I don't recall Dem pressure on Dole.Look what I found... but I don't recall what happened???? Does anyone here know?
"Democrats successfully used parliamentary tactics in 1996 to help derail then-Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole's candidacy for the White House and in the process forced the Kansas Republican to resign his seat - a fact that Republicans have never forgotten. "Those who were around in '96 have found what Democrats did to Bob Dole distasteful," said a senior Republican aide."

We have a solemn duty which I have taken an oath to render to defend and protect our constitution and democracy and with God's help and the support of the people in November we will continue to defend the homeland in far away places like Irak Afganistan, and Lybia and wherever our dedicated troops and intelligence services can find them.

*** I would also like to see her explain why she hid her previous activities from the people who appointed her. ***
As I understand it, all the Democrats on the panel were appointed by Daschle, whose wife lobbied on behalf of the airlines not to have the plane cockpit doors "hardened." This plot is a whole lot thicker than any of us assumes. There was no need to hide anything from Lil Tommy .. he knows exactly why he wanted her on the Commission. She carried out the past Administration's agenda, knows where all the bodies are buried, and is loyal to the party first and foremost.
You expected something else from them?

You might not like my answer but it is better than crawling under the podium.
You cannot reasonabley maintain after the Richard Clarke apology that Bush's staff did not anticipate this question, or can you? Why the breakdown? My god man, we all know the left media is going for the gotcha, this was no surprise to anyone on the planet except, evidently, President Bush.
You can continue to steadfastly resist the obvious but the world saw that Bush looked embarrassingly ineffectual. I say stop denying the truth the whole world sees and fix it.
To: Pukin Dog
"Bush would never speak like that."
In fact Bush did speak like that in one response and it did not sound like spinning but he muffed the delivery and kicked it all away.

Mama Mia MamaLucci! You're on to something, noticing how Kerry's main schtick seems to be an effort convincing people he's one of them, , understands what they've experienced, know where they're coming from. Over-compensation, I'd say, and totally phoney! The man is arrogant, elitist, just trying to cover it up with his version of "I felt your pain".
I'm very impressed you found that old "near death" quote of Kerry. Which publication? With source, I think you should email Brit with the information. It's quite startling he would recycle such a thing.

Mine, is that the world saw a President under an unfair barrage by a biased, rabid Media machine in a time of war. I would call it unfair were it Clinton under such attack. You continue to see events like this at face value, where I have learned from multiple example that the Bush team is always a step ahead of the media, and catches them in trap after trap after trap.
In November, the election will not be between Bush and Kerry, it will be between Bush and the Media. In that contest, Bush cant lose.

" Almost verbatim what he said on TODAY's MTP "
I went back and reviewed Kerry's performance and made an observation.
The closed captioning does not accurately reflect what Kerry said.
One line was completely ommitted in the CC, albeit an unimportant line.
I hope the transcript will reflect Kerry's actual words and is not just transcribed CC .
Kerry talked about Social Security " preems ".
I didn't know if he was talking about neonates.
Or if Kerry was giving a shout out to his hip hop peeps, getting down with the lingo.
"My peeps got to pay the preems, you hear me ?"
"Most def."
After Russert played the clip of Kerry calling soldiers war criminals (which prompted Kerry to start laughing and joking about his hair )- Kerry launched into another non sequitur, which as usual, made absolutely no sense and of course, Russert just let slide.
Kerry said " The word is a bad word. I think it is an inappropriate word."
I didn't know whether Kerry was attempting to quote from Genesis or was rewriting the lyrics to Surfin Bird, by the Trashmen :
well everybody's heard, about the bird! bird bird bird, the bird is the word! bird bird bird, the bird is the word! well everybody's heard, about the bird! bird bird bird, the bird is the word! everybody's heard, about the bird! bird bird bird, the bird is the word! everybody's heard, about the bird! bird
I thought Kerry was going to break into an updated version .
Everybody's heard about the Byrd, Byrd,Byrd,Byrd, the Byrd is the word.
The clip of Kerry's reactions to his own words about US soldiers being war criminals was grotesque.
The RNC should just show that clip as a commercial.
The transcript will not do Kerry justice, his facial features, his laughing and his demeanor are vile.
To: nathanbedford
Because he succumbed to a media frenzy. Wrong again.
He did it because Dick Darman convinced him that he should sit down with George Mitchell (Senate Majority Leader) in a 1990 Budget Summit.
Mitchell promised him that if he went back on his pledge, he, Mitchell, would see that the Congress cut spending such that the deficit would be reduced by $500 billion over five years. Bush fell for it.
By the way, during the next five years, the deficit INCREASED by $500 billion.
Just another item that the Partisan Press doesn't report.
To: Pukin Dog
I like your predictions, but you have to add into the mix a massive saturation of the airwaves, and get-out -the-vote effort by Hollywood, Viacom, Time-Warner etc. It is going to be mindnumbing in its intensity.
They know they have maxed out the traditional dem voter, so they are going for the MTV viewer, and every other typical non-voter.
Example: A cable channel scheduled a docudrama about Robert Kennedy to be aired in the fall of 2002. Just by coincidence(!) RFKs daughter was running for Governor in Maryland, and the ads for this TV movie showing him with his daughter, with inspirational voiceovers, were aired every half hour it seemed for months before the election.
If Rs cry foul, the Ds will just say we are 'meanspirited.'
