WASHINGTON (Talon News) -- Neither the Washington, DC Police Department nor the Secret Service is commenting on the recent protest demonstration at the home of presidential advisor Karl Rove. Several hundred protesters converged on Rove's house two Sundays ago, banging on the windows and demanding a meeting. Only after Rove agreed to meet with a few of the group's leaders did the angry mob board the school buses that brought them to the quiet neighborhood.
National People's Action (NPA), an activist group whose advocacy includes rights for illegal immigrants, organized the rally to demand presidential support for the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act.
The protesters taunted Rove with their chant, "Karl, Karl, come on out! See what the DREAM Act is all about!"
The incident resulted in no arrests or charges against the group or its leaders, despite the trespassing and threatening acts against the presidential advisor. No permit was issued for the demonstration that blocked the street for more than an hour.
A spokesman for the Secret Service directed Talon News to the Washington, DC Police for comment, but Second District Commander Jeffrey Moore did not respond to a request for information or comment.
The White House was reluctant to issue any kind of statement.
Last week, Presidential Press Secretary Scott McClellan told Talon News, "I would just say that we appreciate and understand concerns that people may have. I would certainly hope that people would respect the families of White House staff."
This demonstration was the latest in a string of "direct actions" that has become NPA's trademark. The group boasts of its confrontational tactics in its theme song whose lyrics say, "Who's on your hit list, NPA? Who's on your hit list for today? Take no prisoner, take no names. Kick 'em in the ass when they play their games."
The incident caught the attention of syndicated columnist Michelle Malkin. Her familiarity with the group comes as a result of her best-selling book, "Invasion" which deals in part with illegal immigration.
In a recent column Malkin points out that the NPA is a coalition of groups "funded by the usual suspects -- 'progressive' charities such as the Tides Foundation, Ben & Jerry's Foundation, and the MacArthur, Ford and Rockefeller foundations."
Teresa Heinz Kerry is a supporter of the Tides Foundation through the Heinz Endowments. It donated over $4 million to the Tides Foundation and Center since 1995. The Tides Foundation and Center sits atop a murky labyrinth of non-profits that creates and sustains organizations advocating a wide range of liberal causes.
Malkin reports that her research shows that the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Environmental Protection Agency, and Massachusetts Department of Education have given tens of thousands of dollars in grants to NPA members.
She says, "What distinguishes NPA from other liberal advocacy groups is its tactics. The group often publicizes the home addresses of business and government leaders it wants to shake down and then busing in protesters and schoolchildren (using public school buses) to invade the private property of their victims and intimidate their families."
