FBI questions Claremont profs report of vandalism
By Chris Dolan, News Editor. Published Wednesday March 24, 2004
On Sunday, officials at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) in Claremont, Calif. announced that they have placed Visiting Assistant Professor of Psychology Kerri Dunn on paid leave while they investigate her possible dishonesty regarding the vandalism of her vehicle.
On March 9, Dunn spoke at a forum about racism at CMC. When she returned to her car after the forum, Dunn reported that someone had broken the windows, slashed the tires and spray-painted the exterior with racist and sexist remarks. At the time of the report, officials believed the vandalism was the most serious in a series of hate crimes committed at CMC in the past months.
According to the Los Angeles Times, officials at all five of the Claremont consortium colleges cancelled classes on their respective campuses the day after Dunn reported the crime. Instead of attending class, over 300 students from the schools attended rallies against racism and hate crimes.
Last Wednesday, two individuals approached the Claremont Police Department. They told the police that they had seen Dunn vandalize her car herself, according to the L.A. Times.
Dunn also made inconsistent statements during two separate interviews with the Claremont police and the FBI.
Dunn denies any involvement with the crime. This is a very big deal if they think Im a suspect, Dunn told the L.A. Times. This is so overshadowing the bigger problem on campus, which is that the administration has turned its head regularly on hate speech and hate crime.
Dunn could be charged with filing a false police report (a misdemeanor) or lying to federal investigators (a felony). Her case has been referred to both the Los Angeles County District Attorney and the FBI.
Hopefully, putting Professor Dunn on paid leave will give the authorities time to find the criminals who vandalized her car, Dunns attorney, Gary Lincenberg, told the L.A. Times. We dont object to her being put on paid leave. We think that, given the highly charged atmosphere that has been created, its appropriate.
John Seery 80, professor of politics at Pomona College, another of the Claremont Colleges consortium, said that the possibility that Dunn fabricated her story has dampened the enthusiasm of students for social-awareness initiatives. Were in a wait-and-see mode, he said. Any grand visions of reforming the campuses to eradicate racism and hate speech have been placed in abeyance. I think many folk will err on the side of caution in assessing future claims of racism.
Administrators at CMC insist that they have not yet found professor Dunn guilty. They claim that the leave was negotiated with Dunn and will allow them to conduct their own investigation into the issue.

Two Fort Worth women faked their kidnapping. Not too long ago a woman locked herself in her trunk and shot her own hand and claimed to have been abducted.
Its not uncommon.
It happens on college campuses all the time. Blacks spray racist remarks on a wall, swaztikas and all. Entire college shuts down, sensitivity training for all, marches against hate. Promises of prison time for the perps.... no charges after they find out it was a black person.
Some people just want attention.

Dunn told the L.A. Times. This is so overshadowing the bigger problem on campus, which is that the administration has turned its head regularly on hate speech and hate crime. Yep, she did it. This is a classic "non-denial denial"

Dunn did not do it. Her inner child had taken over. Miss Dunn has no memory of the episode.

Any grand visions of reforming the campuses to eradicate racism and hate speech have been placed in abeyance. I think many folk will err on the side of caution in assessing future claims of racism. I wonder if the Institute for Political Correctness at the Graduate School is behind this? Either way, goodbye First Amendment.
Of course, at the Claremont Colleges, the First Amendment has been dead for years.

The double standards practiced by the left are truly ghastly.
If the DA were going to charge her with anything they would have done so already. they are just hoping interest will die out and this thing will just wither away.
Liberal idiots like Dunn are an affront to a free society, and our college campuses are chock full of them.

Seems to be pretty common, yes. Here in Iowa, we had the failing black Dental college student, who thought that a few "racist" e-mails and a bowl of spaghetti laid at her doorstep would be enough to prevent her from taking, and failing, the dentistry final exam. The computer gurus quickly discovered the source of the "racist" e-mails - Her.
Nothing happened to her of course, she made some lame non-apology and the usual suspects tried to thwart any criticism by mouthing the standard refrain of "Well, it *could* have happened, that's the important thing, lets all act suitably outraged and contrite, and feel guilty because, you know, we're white and we're supposed to be oppressive and racist after all." I can only assume she's doing well at some other higher-learning institution. Maybe she'll be in charge of "diversity" at a corporation near you!
Another guy (same school) one of those "reverends" that seemingly crop up without benefit of any real religious instruction claimed that racist vandals had spray painted his mercedes. Never mind that real, nasty racists of the caucasian persuasian are virtually extinct and have been for some time, he managed to get a lot of mileage out of this incident. At least, until one of the local paint shops allowed that this same fellow had been looking to have his car repainted prior to the incident.
Yes, the proximate cause of serious allegations of racism was due to the fact our young "reverend" wanted a new paint job. Again, our wonderful University system (tuition has increased at least 10% to 25% a year since I don't know when) rolled over and played dead.
Stupid morons don't understand this type of activity only increases when the perpetrators are rewarded.
To: GeronL
Yes, quite common if under-reported for obvious reason. Another incident I remember reading about were the two flat-footed diesel dykes at the University of Montana - they set the house on fire they were residing in, and then blamed, you guessed it, whitey. Big news in Big Sky country, but even I could tell in 30 seconds it had to be an inside job.
One wonders about the credulity of modern newspaper types. Must be really digging at the bottom of the barrel.
