I would disagree in that it seems that a lot dope smokers become lazy and shabby.

I would think they don't have anything to generate any motivation in their life, or they were just lazy slobs in the first place.

b. Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year is 120,000.

I'm not sure where the figure of 120,000 came from, but I believe I read the original article in the Journal of the American Medical Association which cited the the numbers in the following abstract. The hour is too late for me to hunt it down.

BTW, don't misunderstand all docs as being politically correct and disregarding common sense, when many totally agree with self-defense as in the Second Amendment and are only worried about meritless lawsuits.

How many deaths are due to medical error? Getting the number right.

Sox Jr HC, Woloshin S.

Dartmouth Medical School, Hanover, NH, USA. harold.c.sox@dartmouth.edu

CONTEXT: The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on medical errors created an intense public response by stating that between 44,000 and 98,000 hospitalized Americans die each year as a result of preventable medical errors. OBJECTIVE: To determine how well the IOM committee documented its estimates and how valid they were. METHODS: We reviewed the studies cited in the IOM committee's report and related published articles. RESULTS: The two studies cited by the IOM committee substantiate its statement that adverse events occur in 2.9% to 3.7% of hospital admissions. Supporting data for the assertion that about half of these adverse events are preventable are less clear. In fact, the original studies cited did not define preventable adverse events, and the reliability of subjective judgments about preventability was not formally assessed. The committee's estimate of the number of preventable deaths due to medical errors is least substantiated. The methods used to estimate the upper bound of the estimate (98,000 preventable deaths) were highly subjective, and their reliability and reproducibility are unknown, as are the methods used to estimate the lower bound (44,000 deaths). CONCLUSION: Using the published literature, we could not confirm the Institute of Medicine's reported number of deaths due to medical errors. Due to the potential impact of this number on policy, it is unfortunate that the IOM's estimate is not well substantiated.

Even a small amount of alcohol gives me a headache so I don't drink & I am safe from the bad effects as well as the good.

I am a member of the "take it of leave it club". I noticed in Feymann's biography that he quit the minute he noticed an urge to walk into a bar and start drinking. A good idea in his case. The benefits of light to moderate drinking are cancelled if alcoholism or heavy drinking is the result. Likewise, if other systems like the liver shut down, drinking has to go as well.

The benefits of light to moderate drinking extend outside the area of ingested chemicals. Many of us use a drink (or a smoke) as a means of relaxation. Being able to stand down and relax a bit every day is a life extender. Interesting that the creator set it up so that there are so many paradoxes, but thats the way it is. But one can only do this when one is the master of one's own fate. When smoking, drinking, or drug use take over one's life, (or becomes the focal point of one's life) then complete termination and rehab are in order. Take care everyone, now, it must be 5 o'clock somewhere.

I think moderate drinkers drink for excitement, and weed worshippers do their stuff to mellow out. I'm not much on mellow people. lol
