Troop Prayer Thread 10 - A Year of VICTORY!

Posted on 03/19/2004 12:51:59 PM PST by TEXOKIE

THREE CHEERS FOR OUR WONDERFUL TROOPS, THEIR ALLIES, AND ALL WHO ARE SERVING IN SUPPORT CAPACITIES IN THE WAR ON TERROR! YOU HAVE GIVEN THIS NATION A YEAR OF VICTORY IN THAT WAR! The honor is yours, but know that we bask in your accomplishments and love you for your steadfast service on this day!

Welcome, everyone to the 10th Troop Prayer Thread! Today is the anniversary of the resumption of hostilities with Iraq, wherein our troops have made military history that shall ring down the centuries.

The troop prayer threads are dedicated to giving our troops, allies, and all who are serving the Holy Cause of Freedom, including (but not limited to) the families and loved ones waiting at home and those who are not in uniform but who are serving in dangerous situations supporting our troops and gathering intelligence spiritual support. We seek together to offer prayer, scriptures, encouraging messages, and other devotions dedicated to this purpose.

We have over the past year gathered together a prayer list of these servants of freedom. You will find it posted below. FReeper amom has been serving as our List Keeper this past year and I wish to thank and commend her for doing such a meticulous job of keeping it updated. She has also been keeping our ping list up to date. If you wish to submit a name for the prayer list or to add or take off a name from the ping list, please let either or both of us know.

For those of us who have somewhat limited computer capacity, or still have phone modems, we request that graphics be limited to pictures of loved ones for whom we are offering prayers, special visuals that seem particularly appropriate, and as much as possible, non-moving graphics. Thank you.

Thank you so much for spiritually supporting our troops, allies, support civilians, and their families.

We are grateful to God that for those who have been injured or taken back Home, He has dispatched angels to their care.

Dear Lord,
Lest I continue
My complacent way
Help me remember
Somewhere out there
A man died for me today
--As long as there be war
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?"

Taken from the book, "A Man Called Intrepid" by William Stevenson about William Stephenson, the head of British intelligence services prior to and during WWII. He wrote this at the very beginnings of the Battle of Britain and shared it with Eleanor Roosevelt.

STAR SPANGELED BANNER

Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hail'd at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming?

And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream:
'T is the star-spangled banner: O, long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion
A home and a country should leave us no more?
Their blood has wash'd out their foul footsteps' pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation;
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!

Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Thanks for your kind words concerning my organizational abilities! I appreciate your taking up for me despite my evil twin's ploy to denigrate me! :-)

But you BOTH know that what I was referring to is that it is not my strong suit to be able to organize into a managable body the kind of info that has become our prayer list! Amom has done a superb job of that!

It is truly a wondrous thing that JimRob has put together which has allowed us to find such good friends in such an unexpected place!

Thanks for the link, Joy Angela! Our Freepers did a great job in several places across the country showing the anti-troop trolls that there really ARE Americans supporting them and their efforts. WOOO HOOOOO!!!!

Cheney Chick is in Afghanistan and has submitted a prayer request:

*** A prayer request: this morning we got a Red Cross call. One of soldiers who is stationed in Gardez got news that his mom died and he is heading out on a flight tonight to go home for the funeral. He just happened to be here at Bagram which meant he could leave right away. Sometimes we feel so helpless all the way over here when things are difficult at home. There are many soldiers managing family challenges from a distance.... ***

BELOVED MERCIFUL FATHER,
We have learned of a soldier whose mother died and has been granted leave to go home for the funeral. Father, we ask that this family will be surrounded in the days to come. Take that mother to your heart and comfort the family and loved ones she leaves behind. Father, comfort and guide the young man who is having to deal with this terrible loss on top of the duties and responsibilities of his military service. We ask that you will reach into his heart and give him special help, comfort, guidance, and protection while he is processing his grief. Help him to be able to compartmentalize and be focused when he once more returns to his duties in a dangerous place.

Father, we know that others who are serving in deployments or posts away from families and loved ones are dealing with difficult situations. Some have marriages being tested. Some have loved ones with illnesses. Some have lost loved ones while they are far away. Some have financial, professional, or business concerns which have cropped up in their absence. Some of them have children with challenges and tests made even more difficult because of the absence of their parent. There are many other situations which develop and need the attention of their loved one who is far away. It is hard for the one deployed, and it is hard for the ones who wait. Reach into each of these situations, Lord, and bless them and heal the conditions which are causing the problems. Help these people and their loved ones find the solutions which you would provide them if they would only seek them from you. Father, in the case of those who may not know to ask, we ask in their behalf. Clear the way for each of these to have a miracle! Let each of them find that only your divine Plan and Will for their lives is done! Shatter all which opposes your Vision for them.

Father, we are grateful for the service of these magnificent people serving in our military. Please grant them special gifts and blessings, especially if they are faced with inordinate burdens.

We ask this for all who are serving the Holy Cause of Freedom who may be in a similar situation, and only in accordance to thy Will.

Amen

I have been graciously reminded that today is the anniversary of the Iraqi Army's ambush of the 507th Maintenance Company, Fort Bliss, Texas. We recall that many of the 507th were killed in action. Several were taken prisoner and subsequently rescued, amongst them, Jessica Lynch.

FATHER IN HEAVEN,

We ask, beloved Father, that you will surround with extraordinary comfort the family, friends, loved ones, and especially members of the 507th Maintenance Company, Fort Bliss, Texas on this anniversary of the loss of members of their team. Father, we honor these who gave all. We are grateful for those who were preserved and who have returned home to us. We are grateful for the heroes who were responsible for the rescue operations.

Father, on this day, grant a special gift of your loving touch upon the hearts and souls of these who are missing the ones you called Home. Surround the families of all who are grieving. Surround the loved ones who wish they could see that special smile once more. Above all, Father, because we know that when we grieve, we fear that we will forget, grant a special gift of rememberance. Let the memory of that voice or that stance or that grin be renewed. Let there be found amongst the feelings of grief, also those feelings of peace and quiet joy at what that person gave them. Father, we who did not know them honor those who are gone and we also honor those who are suffering the personal loss.

Father, we place before you the ones who are yet healing from the trauma of being captured. We truly have no way of ever repaying the debt we have for those who showed their captors the truth about who Americans are. We ask that you will send teams of your comfort and healing angels to these who are recovering and who will bear scars of their ordeal for many years to come. Father, grant them the miracle of peace, and joy. Favor them with the certain knowledge of the honor in which we esteem them. Let them know at some level of the love we have for them and all who are serving with them.

We are grateful for this 507th Maintenance Company and all her leaders. Father, we remember them this day and commend all of them into your precious keeping in the days to come.

Amen

ONe spectacular young woman lost in that ambush was the best friend of PFC Jessica Lynch. Her name was Lori Piestewa from the Hopi Reservation in Arizona. She left behind two young children.

During her funeral, as eagle flew overhead. Her family took it as a sign of her soul soaring to Heaven.
