Great words! From "those with swords" (the $35M variety with laser guided bombs on the wings...) I say thanks. We (the U.S. military) can handle any enemy we see, but not a knife in the back. I am so sick and tired of the liberals with their whiney "not in my name" b.s. that still continues to this very day. Here's one for Mr. Moore and company; you never worried about me (the jackbooted military types of you overwrought dreams) until it was convenient for your argument, so whine on; but "not in my name!" and STFU while you're at it. I'm not an Al Quaeda kamikaze wannabe and neither are my squadron buds, but I proudly will risk my life to kill the enemies of our country. That is the choice I made when I signed the dotted line, as EVERY military person must do. It almost makes me wish I were an Army ground pounder; they have done a brilliant job in the toughest conditions imaginable. Sure makes me feel guilty flying an air conditioned killing machine, so give the army guys a pat on the back if you meet any, they have earned it. I chuckle reading the wicked humor of the Freepers, and share often with my squadron mates. Keep up the great work Lando, and keep the pressure on the Libs to get the truth out and watch the militarys "Six" position for enemies in the rear. And someone please punch Mr. Moore for me if you see him.....

What we haven't done is to go to war while that minority actively works to undermine our posture, domestically and internationally, and now and then by working directly for the enemy.

Sure we have, and many of the same people were doing the same sorts undermining then. I'm thinking both Vietnam and to a lessor extent Gulf War I.

"so give the army guys a pat on the back if you meet any, they have earned it."

Tell your buddies I said "Thanks!" I'll tell my cousins who have just returned from Iraq (both Army), and my young former co-worker(USAF) who is still there, what you've said.

My thanks to you, as well. Although it would suck going back on active duty, it also sucks not being able to do so. I'm getting a little old and creaky for squating in a foxhole, these days. Give 'em hell, and come back safe!

We argued our case. Maybe we didn't do the best possible job of it. But that's over and done. Today, America is at war. Her forces are in the field. Her men at arms seek to close with and destroy an enemy who will show them no mercy. They represent all of us, not merely those who were in favor of sending them forth. Now that they're engaged, if we divide the nation by prolonging the debate, we will undermine their positions and reduce their chance to prevail. We will be working against our own country.

The country can't have that. We may think we were right. Events might prove us to be either right or wrong. But a nation that goes divided to war is courting disaster -- for the entire nation, including we who wouldn't have gone had our voices prevailed.

It's time we sat down and shut up. If we say anything more from now to the end of the war, it should be, "Thank you, ladies and gentlemen of the armed forces, for your courage. Advance, strike, and may God be with you."

Well said. The fact that you have to write that script for them, and even then they will not read it, lies close to the "treason" of which Ann Coulter spoke.

John Kerry could not read that script aloud, and retain the enthusiasm of those who have assented to his nomination as the primary alternative to the reelection of George W. Bush. I hope that Mr. Bush or his advocates will drive that point home.

I have to assume that Senator Kerry will, by virtue of gaining the nomination of the Democratic Party, win the votes of hundreds of thousands of servicemen - and millions of veterans. I at once know that, and marvel at it.

We who bear no swords can nevertheless ward the poniards from the backs of those who do. It approaches being a duty that we do so, to the best of our ability and regardless of how we felt about the wisdom of going to war before the decision was taken. Our enemy will show no favor to those who opposed our war against him.
Ragtime Cowgirl, I thought to ping you to this; Fran's thread is describing what you are so obviously, so diligently, trying to do.

On reflection, I have an idea for accomplishing the objective - an advertisement with the following elements:

  1. Open with a picture of a soldier or Marine casualty of the Iraqi Freedom war.
  2. Voice of a family member remembering the deceased's commitment to the mission (many different versions of this part of the ad could be made, to honor as many of our fallen heroes as possible).
  3. Picture of Saddam being inspected for lice.
  4. Voice explaining that Iraq is under martial law, and that there is only one legitimate authority in Iraq - the United States (and coalition) military under the authority of the president. And where the writ of the president of the United States runs, attacking Americans who are under the president's orders is attempted murder. Subject, under martial law, to summary execution.
  5. Picture of thousands of soldiers or Marines manifesting elan.
  6. voice of a wounded GI expressing continuing support for the mission of establishing a constitutional, democratic republic in Iraq.
  7. Announcement voice over appealing to youth to consider visiting their local military recruiter with a view to enlisting or joining the National Guard.
And to turn the knife, finance this ad with soft money - if not with DoD money - and explain that it is a public service announcement.

There is no justification for calling that ad political, because it doesn't call for any political vote - even though it is diametrically opposed to the leftist's agenda. Let the leftists try to explain why they don't like it!

((Hugs)) Good ad. (^:

Beautiful essay.

Thank you both.

Back to my post, lol. You know I love our troops and I believe we have no choice but to fight this enemy, so have few doubts. For that I am grateful - and grateful for FR, that Walter Cronkite - even AP can't control the information this war.
