I've read ALL the posts on this thread and it looks like to me a fight may break out between all your guys trying to blame not being able to find a job on your own personal agendas.

here is a sample of replies to the article, reply to 1 or 2.
Can you feel the love? These job seekers must have also "gave up" eating, paying rent, driving a car, and drinking water too.
Did the welfare lines get any longer??
"Ohhh. Looking for work is just tooooo harrrrrd!"
Do these people move into a cave and eat toadstools
I have always said and will continue to say that those who give up looking for work don't really need to get a job.
There are many ways of making money without having a "job".
Good, drop the dead wood.
They only give up looking for work when there is a republican in the Whitehouse
I gave up looking for work when i retired. So am i part of the unemployed i don't think so.
These people must not want to work in the first place.

The people I know that don't show up as employed earn their money under the table and so not only are they making money again, they are avoiding having to pay taxes. How sweet is that?

Well, Howlin, it is about the whiners own personal agendas. And while they whine, we must remember that over fifty percent of people in the USA work for the government or are beneficiaries of government subsidies, in one form or another. We don't need conservatives in the category, also, of whining . If over fifty percent of dems will support a dem POTUS, what can we do if the whiners join the dems in their demands that the government give them or protect their jobs? We will lose....and so will they, methinks.

I think a lot of FReepers get frustrated when they hear supposed conservatives telling sob stories about how they can't find a nice cushy job like they used to have, within five miles of their current residence.
People who whine about their situations get a negative response. People who have a positive attitude get sympathy and job tips.

looking for work is a full time job in and of itself these daysIt always has been. If you have special skills that are in demand, maybe not. In many areas of the country, those jobs are mechanics, carpenters, and nurses. But for other jobs, the hunt is longer.
The traditional wisdom is that it takes 1 mo. for every $10,000 of salary you want. And that's only if you work full time at it.
To: pacpam
You are correct. Reagan did away with the underground economy by lowering taxes and tax dollars rolled in.

I run own a bar so I see a lot of folks that work for cash to make ends meet. And most of the females get assistance, most of the males don't. Their yearly income at working for 5 or 8 bucks cash when they can get it wouldn't cause them to pay income taxes and they will not live long enough to collect SS. It ain't a nice life.

The people complaining how Bush isn't doing anything to protect jobs are most likely the same ones to accuse of being a "Big Gov't RINO Socialist" when he does try to do something about job growth.

Why won't they live long enough to collect SS...if they paid into it?
To: JohnnyZ
That was why I limited my "sample" solely to posters posting to the article, not some other discussion. There was no whine in the article, just the fact that alot of folks in N.C. have given up trying to find a job.

So where are these folks in NC who have given up finding a job? Have they relocated, moved in with relatives or friends, started their own business, gone on welfare or just simply starved to death? I am curious.
