'Activist Judges' Phrase Offends Homosexual Advocacy Group

A homosexual advocacy group rejects the notion that judges are "over-reaching" when they uphold "equal rights" for gays and lesbians.
Lambda Legal said it plans to announce an "aggressive national campaign" on Tuesday -- "to reveal the truth behind anti-gay rhetoric about 'activist judges.'"
Lambda Legal said its campaign will counter the claims of "right-wingers" who say "'activist judges' are overreaching by ruling in favor of equal rights for gay Americans."
Lambda Legal said its campaign will begin on Wednesday -- the same day a U.S. Senate subcommittee begins hearings on a proposed constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of one man and one woman. The Senate hearing is called "Judicial Activism v. Democracy."
The phrase "activist judges" particularly offends Lambda Legal.
"Every day now -- from the White House to the halls of Congress -- we're hearing that so-called 'activist judges' are behind rulings that gay people should be treated equally," the group said in a press release.
"Antigay activists and politicians are doing nothing less than perpetrating a fraud on the American public," said Kevin Cathcart, executive director of Lambda Legal.
Cathcart said Lambda Legal's national campaign "will finally show what's actually happening in this country and hold right-wing leaders accountable for using misinformation about our courts in attempts to write discrimination into our Constitution."
Lambda Legal said it will release details about its national campaign in a telephone press conference on Tuesday. "The multi-pronged, multi-state strategy, with tactics never before deployed on this issue, will be detailed," a press release said.
Lambda Legal said the campaign will hold "antigay elected officials and right-wing groups accountable for spreading misinformation and distortions."
'Activist judges redefining marriage'
When President Bush announced his support for a federal marriage amendment on Feb. 24, he indicated that judicial activism made such an amendment necessary:
The president noted that in recent months, "activist judges and local officials have made an aggressive attempt to redefine marriage."
"Unless action is taken," Bush added, "we can expect more arbitrary court decisions, more litigation, more defiance of the law by local officials, all of which adds to uncertainty.
"After more than two centuries of American jurisprudence and millennia of human experience, a few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilization. Their actions have created confusion on an issue that requires clarity.
On a matter of such importance, the voice of the people must be heard," Bush said.

It will be interesting to see who in, and how much of, the media will drop the term "activist," when referring to judges. And I thought the libs like the word, anyway. Just another double-standard, I suppose.

Will these homosexual lawyers also repudiate the ALI model code which was adopted by the ACTIVIST judges when it was not adopted by the legislature?
no
We have the homosexual on the run.
BTW look for them to try and DESPERATLY try and phrase this as a religion versus rights. The homosexuals are going to go antichristian!
You do not need a religious reason to object to homosexual marriage.
As a lawyer, I have more than enough LEGAL grounds to object to homosexual marriage. It is just that mine are not based on FEEEEELINGS, like the homosexual lawyers.

But then maybe they're fearful that us common folks are becoming too wisetoo aware that an "activist" is really a judge who likes to pretend he wrote the Constitution rather than just being one of its humble interpreters.

I say to the homo "activists" bring it on. If they think for one minute that local TV stations or radio stations are going to accept any of their activism, they are wrong. Local pressure to stop that kind of thing is loaded and ready for action. They ain't seen activist yet!

Ooooh, "gay" activists don't like us using the word judicial activism. Hate speech, thought speech. When are they going to demand incarceration in mental hospitals for those who adhere to traditional moral standards. Makes me sick.

incarceration in mental hospitals for those who adhere to traditional moral standards. Educrats in gummint skoolz are already trying to numb the minds of any student who dares to think in conflict with their leftwing agenda. They'll refer kids who don't toe their line to behavior counseling; they'll medicate; they'll indoctrinate, whatever it takes to stifle children's inherent sense of moral rectitude from Mom & Dad.

"Activist judges" covers a lot more ground than just gay marriage. You're very right. I'm surprised pornographers, abortionists, flag-burners and above all those whiny-@$$ atheists haven't objected to this label before...they've all been the beneficiaries of judicial activism over the last 50 years, and to the detriment of our great Republic.

Lambda Legal said it plans to announce an "aggressive national campaign" on Tuesday -- "to reveal the truth behind anti-gay rhetoric about 'activist judges.'"
An excerpt from: "The Overhauling of Straight America"
(5) Make the victimizers look bad. At a later stage of the media campaign for gay rights -- long after other gay ads have become commonplace -- it will be time to get tough with remaining opponents. To be blunt, they must be vilified. (This will be all the more necessary because, by that time, the entrenched enemy will have quadrupled its output of vitriol and disinformation.) Our goal here is twofold. First, we week to replace the mainstreams self-righteous pride about its homophobia with shame and guilty. Second, we intend to make the anti-gays look so nasty that average Americans will want to dissociate themselves from such types.
The public should be shown images of ranting homophobes whose secondary traits and beliefs disgust middle America. These images might include the Ku Klux Klan demanding that gays be burned alive or castrated; bigoted southern ministers drooling with hysterical hatred to a degree that looks both comical and deranged; menacing punks, thugs, and convicts speaking coolly about the fags they have killed or would like to kill; a tour of Nazi concentration camps where homosexuals were tortured and gassed.
A campaign to vilify the victimizers is going to enrage our most fervid enemies, of course. But what else can we say? The shoe fits, and we should make them try it on for size, with all of America watching...
