The logical conclusion is that, no matter what Perle said, that wasn't the reason that Perle wanted Tenet gone.

"hat amused (that's not the right word) me about that was the Perle was a major proponent of the Saddam -> WMD link via Chalabi and now he's trying to blame the CIA for giving him the intelligence he wanted. If the CIA would of said that there were no WMD Perle would of just said that they were fools."

"The logical conclusion is that, no matter what Perle said, that wasn't the reason that Perle wanted Tenet gone."

perle wanted the cia to do something that it didn't do. what do you think that might be?

The antagonism directed towards Perle on this board utterly perplexes me.

Simple: there's a comparatively tiny (albeit boneheaded) faction hereabouts that gets off on blubbering and shrilling the word "neocon" hysterically, as a dimwitted sort of substitution code phrase for "Jooooooooooooooo -- !"

The only substantive difference between these types and the foaming DUers they most resemble is (very occasionally) a moderately more interesting working vocabulary.

Perle has served this administration (and this country) admirably, and with distinction; more so certainly, than the inconsequential cargo cult of his critics.

The fastest, most reliable means by which one may determine whether Perle's leaving is a good thing or a bad thing is by seeing how America's enemies are taking the news.

"Is this an ego thing regarding WOT policy."

it's beyond ego.

the contention is about certain cia actions and even more about certain unexpected inactions.

it's easy to guess what perle's problem with the cia and tenet might be. think about the entire wmd saga.

I'm with you. I do feel that corporate scandal does play in the equation as well. Right now Perle is an albatross for Bush. Perle has problems of his own to deal with.

I don't prescribe to your formula of reason, because if losing Perle is bad thing, we didn't have a good man! Anyhow thanks for the DU link which has so eloquently summed up Perle's departure (barf alert). As stated:

"He's being groomed for the role of Himmler in the second Bush administration. So, he needs to take a few months off to lighten up, and look less evil-looking."

How friggin DUmb can some people be! I marvel at the intelligence on FR.

If Perle resigned, I assure you, he had a Very good reason (/snicker).

I think Perle would seek recovery for the financial and reputational damage that false reporting about him caused. The media's second job -- or is it the first -- is to falsely accuse their adversaries. So readiness to sue them is a duty, like feeding one's cat.

Ah, yes. The sunlight is truly fading for the poor, downtrodden NeoCons...sniff.

NOT!

Peace to you, Liz.

Great news and I agree that he certainly ha$ a rea$on.

Interesting that those who seem so confident that Perle will be suing anyone and everyone over slights to his integrity haven't paid enough attention to the creep's MO to note that it's been over a year since his loudly threatened, but yet to materialize, suit against S Hersch's "slanders".

Here's hoping the Pres gave him a little push towards the door, and here's to also hoping the words "will the defendant please rise" figure into his near future.

Gee, that would be great if he's only taking a few months off.
I hope the prognosticators at DU are correct.

He reached the far right of the Fool Meter long time ago.

Any resemblence between his "thought" and the actual Burke is a stunning accident.
