How could you disagree with a man who is going to defeat "Evil" itself?
To: Afro_conservative
So you support Perle using the justice system to sue and clog up the courts because you agree with him but others should hang their head in shame. If that's what it takes to prove he was slandered, you damn straight.

LOL! Like I said, I do disagree with some of his ideas. I take particular issue with his argument in favor of a national identity card in his recent book.

Count on Perle to go unquietly into that good night. Rage, Richard, rage.
Hooray for him. Now, let's see just how much REAL coverage this gets...

The antagonism directed towards Perle on this board utterly perplexes me. He's in a sense the anti-Powell in that his statements and positions typically reflect the administration's true stance on issues that diplomacy prevents them from publicly embracing.
And the man's nothing if not downright prescient. As this October 2001 interview illustrates..
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/gunning/interviews/perle.html Q: If we go into Iraq and we take down Hussein?
A: Then I think it's over for the terrorists.
Q: Why so optimistic?
A: Because having destroyed the Taliban, having destroyed Saddam's regime, the message to the others is, "You're next." Two words. Very efficient diplomacy. " You're next, and if you don't shut down the terrorist networks on your territory, we'll take you down, too. Is it worth it?" Of course it isn't worth it. It isn't worth it for any of them.

"Seems I might be the only Perle fan here." i also like perle.
quote from the article- "Senior Pentagon officials said that, despite the controversial statements and writings, Rumsfeld did not ask for Perle's resignation."
perle has been on the outs with rumsfeld. the message for perle was clear as stygian waters. rumsfeld had no need to ask in words.

How do you know this?

"How do you know this?" it is not a dark secret.
it is even in perle's resignation letter itself - post #6 higher up in this thread. perle's letter starts:
"Dear Mr. Secretary, Thank you for finding time to see me on February 10."
what a sarcastic start to an official letter!
what could possibly be the reason for this sarcasm? i think perle hasn't seen much of rumsfeld lately. wouldn't you agree?
To: Khan Noonian Singh
Nonsense..He is outstanding--the best international strategist..This frees him to say what he wants without worrying about the Administration..He has a great slander case and I am glad he is finally pursuing it

"Nonsense"? I agree with you. Had you intended to reply to somebody else's post?

Another Government program and I'm not sure what useful purpose it would actually serve. Unless the Government decides to limit things like flying or entering and exiting the country to citizens with a national ID card, I don't think that it would do much for security.
As I said, I agree with Richard on lots of things, but the ID proposal doesn't make sense to me.

A week ago Perle called for the resignation of Tenet at CIA and Jacoby at DIA. Either he had to go or they did.
To: Khan Noonian Singh
Yes---I am sorry I hit the wrong button.
To: Persephone Kore
Nothing sarcastic in that--really--
To: the Real fifi
No problem.
I am sorry to see Perle go, but he'll be back.

What amused (that's not the right word) me about that was the Perle was a major proponent of the Saddam -> WMD link via Chalabi and now he's trying to blame the CIA for giving him the intelligence he wanted. If the CIA would of said that there were no WMD Perle would of just said that they were fools.
