It boils down to money. Electoral reform is not a sexy political topic and you're gonna have a close election perhaps once in a century. The urgency surrounding 2000 and the chads is gone.

``The question is: How far up the ballot will it be? If it's dogcatcher, then it's going to end up on Page 22 of the newspaper, but if it's farther up in the ballot, more people will pay attention.'' Reports of dead voters and admitted multiple voters don't get much press either. Neither do any reports of the conviction of those who commit such vote fraud.

In 2000, as a Poll judge (got to see some DEM dirty tricks up front and personal) my then 5 year old got to punch a practice ballot. They had them at all polling sites to assist new voters. She voted straight republican and never had a hanging chad, nary a dimple in sight, except on her beautiful little cheeks. She was 5! These ballots are low tech, but they work fine. The real issues was, how many votes would Bush have one by, if the News had not called Florida for Gore before the Republican dominated panhandle had finished voting?

As much as I dislike these types of ballots, I'll take them over the electronic voting any day of the week.
