Time-lapse photos of the recovery of the USS Cole.

Rare Photos
These are time-lapse photos of the recovery of the USS Cole.
In the first photo, a transport ship is "flooded" to allow it underneath the disabled USS Cole.
Cole was transported from Aden to Pascagoula by the Norwegian heavy transport ship M/V Blue Marlin.
As the photos progress, the USS Cole is secured to the deck of the transport ship.
Then the transport is slowly raised to the surface of the water to get underway.
DETERMINED WARRIORS
Seventeen of their shipmates
Paid the price, supreme
Thirty-some more, hurting
Like in some nightmarish dream.
But, it wasn't a bad dream
Just the reality, of life
When you go into harms way
In this world of war and strife.
They gave their lives like those before them
Who fight for truth and liberty
For the safety of our country
And countries too, across the sea.
They sail upon the seven seas
Months on end out on patrol
And sometimes, so sadly
Must pay a deadly toll.
"It comes with the territory."
Is what some, may say
But that doesn't ease the pain
Of the price they have to pay.

Heard a democrat hack today saying that America couldn't even build a warship today if it had to.
This totally infuriated me as the first thing I thought of was our repair of the USS Cole.
Don't we have another new ship getting under way.....The USS Ronald Reagan?

You are correct. Looking at that hole it would be a pain even with everything powered and functioning. To save her in the dark under those situations in a hostile port is incredible.
The crew of USS Cole may not have fired a shot, but they truly disappointed the terrorists watching from shore who were oh so sure that their placement of the explosive would lead to a US ship sunk in their harbor.

Everytime I see these photos, I'm amazed at the training and technology our sailors use on a daily basis. Such a stark contrast to terrorists... Will they ever wake up?

Funny how the dems all want Tenet fired, but uttered not a word when this ship was attacked.
X42 actually promoted the Captain of the USS Cole........

She's already out on the water, hull number CVN 76. Have seen her up close (well I've driven past her while she's at pier anyway) and she's simply awesome. Next one in the shipyards being built as we speak is the USS George Herbert Walker Bush.

"You are correct. Looking at that hole it would be a pain even with everything powered and functioning. To save her in the dark under those situations in a hostile port is incredible." The USS Cole was repaired about 20 miles from my house at Ingall Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss. The Navy imposed a five mile exclusion zone around the area the whole time she was being repaired. They were afraid that terrorists would make a second attempt on her.
