Did anyone else see the pitiful performance by Pelosi yesterday. One of her eyes is drooping and I could barely pay attention to her rambling for waiting for the eye to snap shut!!!!

These dems all look like they could use a good scrubbing and an infusion of integrity too.

Yes, daughter works in Denver and there are more tech jobs there now too. At one point they had lost 49,000 tech jobs. Much of the loss due to Qwest and their criminal activities.

As for crass comments "Then you have employment problems in general that transcend IT and outsourcing," sounds like you made the first move.

That was in response to your giving your location, not as a commentary on you in general.

That and Lucent emptying their buildings along 470.

I noticed that the evil white people got the lowest unemployment rate.

Hey Ketchup boy, here is a "hot" issue that you should use against President Bush. Not only you insulted the National Guard, you might as well go whole hog and insult a significant part of the United States population...(Sarcasm button off)

Sun laid off folks too. It was really across the board but her company is hiring now and the market in general has gotten better.

Northrup Grumman is hiring too......so there are jobs for people with skills.

Here's the Reuters take on the same story. Note the doom and gloom hinted at.

The U.S. economy created just 112,000 new jobs in January, far fewer than expected, government data showed on Friday, in a disappointing report that will weigh on President Bush's re-election campaign.

Wow are you right! Four negatives in just the first sentence!

Lehman had forecast a 90,000 rise in payrolls last month.

Economists had expected payrolls would rise by 175,000 last month

Looks like we should pay more attention to Lehman's forcasts, rather that these so called 'economists', they were much closer.

If this was Klinton running for re-election:

"The U.S. economy created 112,000 new jobs in January, a tremendous improvement over December, government data showed on Friday, in an encouraging report that will definitely bolster President Klinton's re-election campaign."

I'm still not "employed", because I'm not evil enough. At my last job interview, I showed up looking like this:

...but I guess I didn't fool 'em.

Why does the reporter even have to editorialize about any 'campaign' in such a short piece whose purpose is supposed to be to report facts?

(Rhetorical)

You wanna stay employable in IT in this country? Learn more than code and hardware - learn several different functions within IT and develop business expertise. And learn QA concepts and apply it to your work.

In other words get used to working in a sweat shop. If you or your employer think you can do all of those job functions and still produce decent software and/or systems you and/or they are crazy.

This is a perfect example of how we have gone backwards in this country. There was a time when you could work 8 to 5 and still do well in this country. My dad is a great example. He was able to work as a scientist at IBM from 1960 to retirement. He was able to send 3 kids to college and actually have some money for retirement, get his house paid off and is doing rather well.

Those days are gone. If you're not working 2 jobs you're going to be behind the eight ball. Oh, I forgot to mention that my mom didn't work. I have a friend who would love to stay home with her kids. But the cost of living in New Jersey is so high that she and her husband both have to work.

Look the democrats wanted it this way. They want everyone run ragged so that we will start to believe they can deliver on their empty promises. But to try and white wash the truth that things aren't that bad. Even if people are finding jobs it is because they are taking 20% hit on their salarys. If it takes you 8 months to find a job and you take a 15% decrease that's a lot of dough that you don't have anymore and won't have. If you now have to work longer hours to make that decreased salary the salary is diminished even further. There was a time in this country when people were paid time and a half for working overtime.

What if outsourcing means you can have a job but you can forget a raise anytime soon. I guess you should just feel lucky to have a job. This discussion disgusts me because there are so many sheep who refuse to fight back. It's not just the executives fault, we are letting them give away our jobs. We are letting them cut our salarys. It's crazy.

Wrong. When you understand more than one IT function, it allows you to function better within the entire software development lifecycle, and it gives you more opportunity to move into analysis, project management or quality assurance, thereby increasing your chances of either keeping your job or finding a new one. And when you understand business functions better, you produce software that functions better in the real world.

In my previous contract, I started as a Data Analyst and then moved into a QA Lead position. I am currently in the running for a programmer/test analyst position, a QA position, and a database marketer position. I have two other options developing to be a QA manager or a reports analyst. That's the advantage of having a varied skill set - it opens up more positions for you.

Anecdotal evidence: I live in Southeastern Michigan, where employment is heavily industrial due to the auto industry. One of my friends lost his job working for an auto supplier and found a new job in less than four weeks working for another supplier. This is in an area where the local unemployment rate is greater than 10%.

Further anecdotal evidence: I met with a new customer yesterday who is one of the largest, if not the largest, manufacturer of industrial robots in the U.S. They told me that January, which is normally a very slow month for them, was one of the busiest Januaries they've had in their history. This tells me that factories are receiving orders for goods and they are either adding robots to meet production or they are upgrading to new robots for increased productivity. I see this as a sign of greater economic activity that will be reflected in upcoming months.

Finally, on one of my favorite business shows - CNBC's Kudlow & Kramer - Jim Kramer, an unabashed Democrat (but also a capitalist), recently declared that in an economic recovery from recession, historically, jobs are added to the economy one year after interest rates reach their lowest level. Kramer said interest rates reached their lowest level in March 2003 so the economy should start adding jobs at a greater pace in March 2004. It looks like we're on our way there. This does not bode well for the Rats in the upcoming election.

RATS and their media handmaidens are peddling fear in the hopes of frightening off consumer spending, thus creating a second dip later this year. RATS are scum.
