"3) Any competent geologist can very easily distingush between a volcanic deposit and a sedimentary deposit formed by non-volcanic running water, or precipitation from water, VERY easily.

This is under debate also.

Erosion through soft volcanic ash in one case; erosion through sandstone, limestone, quartz, and shale (and other hard rocks) in the other case. You do know the difference between rocks and ash, of course.

Which inspired Dmitri Tomkin to write "In The Steppes Of Central Utah"?

Any true believer knows it was really Paul Bunion dragging his ax that formed the Grand Canyon.

I'm tired of this legitimate viewpoint being suppressed by those that fear the truth.

Sounds like the lumberjack who told his boss he used to work in the Sahara Forest. The boss pointed out the the Sahara is a desert. The lumberjack replied, "It is now."

No, actually it was Alexander Borodin, the renown Mormon musical chemist, who published "The Thirty Nine Steps of Central Asian Sequence Stratigraphy".

Actually, it was Borodin who wrote "In the Steppes of Central Asia" (this is the song you're referring to, right?) I wouldn't be surprised if Tiomkin DID write a song called "In the Steppes of Central Utah", though. he wrote many great scores for many great Westerns.

Tiomkin is my favorite film composer. (Elmer Bernsten is second with David Raksin third.) There was a running joke about Russian sounding themes running through Tiomkin's western scores (Rio Bravo for example). Tiomkin supposedly replied, "Steppes is steppes." I forgot who called one of his scores "In the Steppes of Central Utah."

Tiomkin is my second favorite composer, with Max Steiner coming in first (when I ever I need an aldrenalin rush, I just start humming that rousing theme from Treasure of the Sierra Madre). Tiomkin was also very much suited to doing movies with a wintery theme (Everything from Lost Horizon to It's a Wonderful Life to The Thing); I guess it's that Russian-Ukraine background again :-)

Only by creationists, because they don't like the answers that the correct analysis gives.

Only things that can be tested by a physical experiment are science.

Cool, then evolution is an "actual verifiable science". Thanks for clearing that up for us.

The Colorado River was once a very mighty river. Movement of the tetonic plates (earthquakes)amongst other things change the landscape. There were major changes which probably also changed ocean currents, which affected weather and precipitation. The earth is old and once was covered by ocean. Some plates were pushed up above the water level while others are still there or were once up but are back. I believe in evolution/creation. Everything is so perfect and mathematically perfect that it is obvious to me that did evolve but through creation.

Circular argument. As if creationists are the only ones with an agenda.

I should have said, The earth did evolve "clearly by design."

- The Kaibab Limestone layer, at the very top of the column, shows the only evidence to be found in the canyon of fossilized sponges!

Because sponges don't grow everywhere in all possible eras and conditions, and because not all strata were formed under conditions suitable for fossilizing soft-bodied animals. Duh.

This is embarrassing to evolutionists,

No it isn't. (It never ceases to amaze me how many things creationists believe evolutionists must be "embarrassed" by, based only on the fact that the *creationists* can't think of how evolution might be consistent with the issue at hand.)

because sponges are believed to be the first multicellular organisms to have evolved on earth. If anything, they should be at the bottom, not the top, of things.

Right, because, like, sponges don't exist through modern times, and therefore couldn't appear in any recent strata, they could *only* appear in the *oldest* strata...

Oh, wait...

Menton is an idiot. And it's obvious (even before I went and looked) that he didn't earn his "Ph.D" in geology, because he's talking such nonsense that any reasonably bright high-school student can see what's wrong with it.

Sadly, this sort of "what in the hell are they thinking" reasoning (or lack thereof) is typical for creationist arguments and "evidence".
