Terrorism charges have been brought in Germany against a Tunisian man accused of training with al-Qaeda.
The 33-year-old man, identified only as Ihsan G, is accused of planning to form a terrorist group and attack US and Jewish targets in Germany.
Prosecutors said the man hoped to set off "several explosions" to coincide with the start of the Iraq war.
He is said to have been in the process of acquiring bomb-making chemicals when he was arrested in March.
Prosecutors said the suspect received military and explosives training at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan.
It was there he is alleged to have received instructions to return to Germany and recruit Muslims to carry out attacks.
Training
Prosecutors said Ihsan G first went to Berlin in 1996 where he traded in gold and silver.
He is said to have developed radical anti-Israeli and anti-American views before travelling to Afghanistan in July 2001 where he allegedly became a military trainer for Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda.
On his return to Germany he is alleged to have recruited four people and given them "physical and ideological training".
Prosecutors said the man starting looking for chemicals to produce explosives, and also bought mobile phones and watches to be modified for use as detonators.
Investigations are continuing against other people suspected of involvement in the plot, but no details have been released.
