I wonder if this is related to some story earlier today, that the courts had ruled that the detainees have a right to representation or must be released? Timing is probably not coincidental....

I think the first trial should begin the week before the Democratic National Convention and last about two weeks. That should take the wind out of their sails.

Just a week or two ago, the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal on this very question, or at least on the question as to whether they could be tried by military tribunals.

I prefer General Washington, triators and saboteurs got a military tribunal in the field and a rope.

There is also a historical association of dishonor for those hanged; traitors, rebels, spies, and common criminals usually got the gallows.Agreed. Firing squads should be reserved for real soldiers, not for the "brains" behind terrorist vermin.

I agree wholeheartedly. (To me, George Washington is the greatest American ever.)

Perhaps that declination by the Supreme Court was the last legal hurdle the administration needed to clear before proceeding with these tribunals.

It occurs to me that these tribunals might just get underway without much media notice thanks to the Michael Jackson circus. If so, at least the Jackson mess will generate the first-ever useful mindless media feeding frenzy.
