Oh, and for perspective: most SOUTH Carolinians dislike NORTH Carolinians, because we're from the North. This can get ridiculous, I agree.
To: JohnHuang2
And as for the way we talk? Zell Miller has made more sense in one year with his mountain twang than Ted Kennedy has made with his Yankee accent in the last 50 years. Excellent observation. But the donkeys aren't listening to Zell.

Apologies for the double post. I just had to add that "d".
To: warchild9
I apologize if any offense was taken. None taken. I spent about nine years in South Carolina when I was in the Navy. It was OK. I never had any bad experiences or anything, except with what passes for barbecue down there, but I can't honestly say that I ever had any desire to move there permanently, then or now. It's your home, not mine, and you're welcome to it.

This can get ridiculous, I agree. I think it has something to do with the word North. :)
Just kiddin' friend.

The Mrs. has business in Charleston again next month, and I'm going down for a visit with her. I'm looking forward to a few days of girl-watching, then we're on to the Yankee enclave at Hilton Head, and my favorite Greek restaurant. On the way back, I'll visit the League of the South HQ in Abbeville.
I am so fond of your state, sir.

Can I come if I tell you that I deeply admire Stonewall Jackson... wished that the South would have won... and wept like a baby when General Gordan led the Stonewall Brigade before the Union Army to surrender?

Apparently it can get ridiculous, because I can see absolutely no reason such blanket statements make any sense.

Every Yankee who goes south with the intention of staying is an idiot.I know a guy who feels the exact same way. Except he calls them "Damn" yankees, and probably considers them idiots for entirely different reasons than you do, lol.

On the way back, I'll visit the League of the South HQ in Abbeville. I only live 17 miles from Abbeville. :) In fact I was in the League building Monday night, bought a new CBF as I was on my way to my SCV Camp meeting.
I am so fond of your state, sir.
I kinda like it myself. ;)

Southern Illinois is pretty far south. Southern Illinois is prime copperhead territory, may even have been where the term was coined, because there was so much sabotage going on.
To those considering coming on down, take heart! After 23 years it doesn't really matter if I was a yankee once. I got rid of my carpetbag a long time ago.

Yeah yeah, rub it in, Neal.I remember a few years back when it was bitterly cold on Christmas day.
Close to 13° The next year it was 75°. It might snow here once every 12 years, and then only maybe an inch. I'd prefer all the yankees thought we were ignorant hicks. It really gets to be a pain to pull up to the mansion, turn off the classical music, take off the tux, put on overalls, slip in a pair of bubba teeth, crank up the country music, and then park by the highway in the old pickup to wave at snowbirds. ;o)

I don't want to shock you, but some places up north, the neighbors get upset if you pee off your front porch! Can you believe that??? My general experience with the north is that they prefer the nearest sidewalk instead. That was the first thing I noticed the first time I stepped off the train in New York. The sidewalks all smelled like urine no matter where you were.
To: warchild9
those beautiful women I watched in New York City. They are fine, for sure, but after being in 48 states and Canada, I found the ladies from the South to be the most appetizing. Maybe it's the longer growing season. They just have that look in their eye...

As a semi-southerner (native Kentuckian), I'd like to ask everyone's opinion about Florida. Is it part of the South? If not, was it ever? Are some parts of it the South and not others (like Miami)? I'm told New York City residents are required by law to move there when they retire. Is this true?
Also, a question for you Yankees (or must I say damnYankees?): What is the plural of "y'all"?
