Press release - 07/01/2004
President Fox discussed migration reform with President Bush

040107/02

January 7, 2004, Los Pinos. Mexican President Vicente Fox Quesada this morning held a fifteen minute telephone conversation with United States President George W. Bush.

President Bush confirmed his administration's interest in progressing toward the establishment of facilities that will enable legal, safe, and orderly migration between both countries, and today will present the general outline of a proposal.

President Bush told Mr. Fox of the important role played by Mexico and its government in the debate on immigration reform.

Mexico's leader gave information on his telephone call with the United States President during the ceremony to restart the 2003-2004 school year, held at the No. 1 "Social Participation" primary school:

"Of course, first he sent me warm greetings for all Mexicans, especially all Mexicans who are there, in the United States, and acknowledging the effective and enormous contribution made by these Mexicans there, in the United States.

And that is why he wants and is going to make the proposal, the proposal of a migration plan to clearly acknowledge the value of these Mexicans working there, in the United states.

And he is going to acknowledge (them) ensuring that everyone working there -and that is what Mexican men and women are doing- are legally recognized. So that they -then- can have all the rights all workers in that country have, even if they are not American nationals or lack documentation at this time.

So that all their labor and human rights can be respected, but so that they can also come and go to Mexico, so they can be near their families.

As you know, they can't do so now because afterwards, when they want to return, they face serious difficulties. So, it is a highly interesting program, we are going to wait for details. It is a program that we -President Bush and President Fox- have been working on since before we were formally presidents of our respective countries.

We have been working on it since he was governor and President Vicente Fox was governor; we have been working on it since he was president-elect and I was president-elect; and we have continued to work on it over these three years; it has been the main item in bilateral relations."

Fox is using the US in the same way the Arabs do... as a scapegoat to prevent a melt down in their own countries by redirecting and encouraging hostilities towards the US. They are too incompetent to fix their own problems.

He {Fox} said that President Bush's proposal falls short of our expectations but that it is a good initiative.

Agreed. There's no reason for Mexico to be so poor that its main export is its own citizens - no reason except corruption and incompetency and socialism, that is.

Mexico is engaging in ethnic cleansing of its Indigenous and Mestizo populations.

I guess that's one way UPS and FED-EX will be able to keep down their rates.

This may well turn out to be "Bush's Box"

This whole strategy goes against Bush's/Rove's usual pandering to the center. In this case the majority of the center is strongly against this policy, as are the overwhelming majority of conservatives. This could backfire on the administration bigtime.

Accurate observation. Anything to keep the masses from blaming the true culprits. And with the U.S. being the sole superpower these days (with all the third-world envy that goes along with it), it's quite easy to pull off.

I hope Bush, who is meeting with Fox next week, uses this to get some real cooperation from Mexico. It would be a first, if he does.

Not gonna happen, GWB sucks up to Mexico the way his father used to suck up to the ChiComms.

Want a change in immigration policy? Bring home ALL the troops from Afghanistan, Iraq, and whatever used to be Yugoslavia, let them wallow in their own crap, and go for regime change in Mexico. If we pissed away $87 billion in Mexico, more of the wetbacks would stay there.

I'd love to see Vicente Fox as the ace of spades in a deck of cards, with all of his corrupt military and police leaders as the rest of a whole "shoe" of decks!

25% of the Mexican GDP is from illegal here sending money there.

That’s a number worth fighting for politically and even militarily!

No doubt their military and even police are helping to dig the tunnels!

Fox is the batter man.

Mexico deports arrests, fines, jails, then deports illegal aliens.
