I think we do need to take responsibility for choosing doctors and dentists carefully. The problem is that there's no one who rates them. Perhaps we need a clearinghouse for the number of lawsuits they have, or something similar.

BTW, our dental plan at work is one to watch out for. The way it works is that each participating dentist gets X number of dollars per month whether he works on anyone or not. This is an incentive NOT to work on patients. And it seems the ones who do work on them do not do a very good job.

If I recall rightly that is called a "capitated plan." They get X amount of $$ whether you use them or not, however if you go over the amount of capitated dollars, they get no more compensation. From what I have seen of these dental plans, they are good people to stay away from. They don't feel like they are making enough money to make the patient happy.
