I'm sorry. Is it not self-evident that the armed citizen isn't particularly concerned if the hijacker has a gun?

No, it most certainly is not "self-evident".

My biggest fear that day was watching my husband bite his lip. This is a very bad sign and I really hoped he could control himself. He did,we moved, and I haven't worried about it.
I learned not to drive with expired plates ,even with a temp propped in the window! We did not get a ticket. You look at the world differently than I do.It was my first and last experience with a really nasty Patrolman. It was in the 70s!

Then may I humbly suggest you forgo carrying a weapon. If Heinlein's dictum of an armed society being a polite society isn't self-evident, you should recuse yourself from discussions of the subject.

So, what is your opinion on armed air Marshals? Howze about armed pilots, like they had in the '50s and '60s?

LOL

You certainly are full of yourself. I'm not excusing myself from the discussion.

You offered a flawed opinion, which was not "an armed society is a polite society", and I pointed it out.

I see there is a contingent here that incorrectly interprets, either by poor comprehension skills or sheer willfulness, any observations that carrying a gun is not the end all and be all of defensive and security measures, as an anti-gun comment. Those observations are not anti-gun, but so eager are you and others to see them as such you leap right on ahead and make that erroneous conclusion.

I was going to ignore you Fred, but then decided to answer you. Armed air Marshals and armed pilots, both, are okay by me. :-)

I'm not a gun grabbing yahoo.

She said you pretend to be pious, not that she didn't understand its meaning.

How can I pretend to make statements? I make statements, or I do not make statements. I can not pretend to make statements. Nice try though. That is from a teacher?

From her statement it was clear to me she indeed did not understand the meaning of the word.

Not even I can PRETEND to make statements.....

"may be infiltrating flight crews..."

You didn't finish the warning....the concern is infiltration of foreign flight crews. I would trust any American crew on any American air carrier and if the crew was armed and trained, I would trust those crew members to "smoke" any other member of the flight crew that might try and turn their aircraft into a flying bomb. There is nothing magical to sky marshalls, I have competed against a few. The really scary thing about their job requirements are that they are forbidden to read; drink so much as an OJ; watch a movie or sleep (even to doze) that's like staying on the ready line ready to draw for a 14 hour flight from overseas.

There are other numerous ways to spot the sky feds. One of the group and it might even be a woman or a woman and a teenager (I hear mini-Mohammeds are lining up to be suicide bombers) can start a cabin disturbance sufficient enough to detect who the cops are either by their action or studious lack thereof.

The last line of defense has to be one that is proactive in the cockpit. That means locked and loaded.

There is a one-issue contingent of gun carriers who see all issues from that prism. To wit,,the suggestion that people with CCW , law enforcement, ex military, yadda yadda, all be allowed to carry on board airliines. Now if Al Quaeda is smart, is recruiting people in this country, it won't be too hard to get CCW's, get a few bad former law enforcement and ex military to go onboard masquerading as our personal militia. Not to mention identiy theft of law abiding people including their ID and their CCW. Seems to me with all the criticism of the failures of Homeland Security, with all the personal axes to grind, it is amazing that no attacks have happened.

I just noted you posted a definition of the word "pious" when a definition did not appear to be called for.
